Hi everyone,

I am an OOS student who was offered the full B/K scholarship from Maryland. I am about ready to commit, but was wondering if anybody could tell me about the premed program. I would be turning down an accelerated medical program (Drexel 7 yr) to come to Maryland, so I want to make sure the coursework is manageable and grading is fair so that I can get into a medical school later. How have people in Honors and Scholars fared (GPA-wise) in their courses at Maryland? How accessible are research and clinical opportunities? Also, how well prepared are students for the MCAT? Finally, is biochem or neurobiology & physiology a better choice of major?

Thanks for the information!

For grades, [Grades | OurUMD](http://www.ourumd.com/grades/) has grades for many classes. Just make sure you look at the sample size to see if it is reasonable. It mostly depends on how much work you are willing to put in, though.

Does anyone have experience with the grading in the premed classes? I was looking for more of a subjective feel than a grade distribution, since I don’t really have a good sense of how competitive and hardworking the average UMCP student is.

I actually transferred to UMD after having attended Rice and Duke, and found it pretty tough to get good grades in UMD classes. The good students at umd can be VERY good.

Indiantarheel- aren’t you now transferring to UNC?

Anybody in scholars or honors care to share their experiences with grading at Maryland??

@collegej2, I wouldn’t be concerned about grades at Maryland. I and many of my friends are getting the same grades we got in high school. I’m also a B/K scholar and pre-med. Just work hard, participate (sit up front in the LARGE classes and answer questions).
All my professors know me by name and have been more than fair.
