Does Fordham have grade inflation or deflation?

I would say a bit of deflation. There is the +/- system which can screw up your gpa and in most classes, there is a general rule that the average grade must be a C+/B-. The broad core curriculum also can butcher your gpa because you'll probably encounter a class that you're not strong in. Even the nicest of professors don't mess around with grading.

that's pretty scary...

Professors are strict, but overall, they are the nicest people you can meet. If you put in the work, you'll most likely get the grade you deserve.. it's just that Fordham does have fairly strict grading policies as they are trying hard to prevent inflation.

Here's an excerpt from fordham.edu just in case anyone is interested...

The most common grades, given by instructors, are letter grades representing levels of academic achievement. These letter grades and their numerical equivalent are indicated below:
Letter Numerical
Grade Equivalent

A 4.0: Excellent. Honors-level work, outstanding.
A- 3.7: Still excellent.
B+ 3.3: Very Good. High Level of performance.
B 3.0: Good. Solid and above average level of performance.
B- 2.7: Good. Still above average.
C+ 2.3: Average level of performance.
C 2.0: Satisfactory. Acceptable level of performance.
C- 1.7: Minimally acceptable.
D 1.0: Passing, but unsatisfactory. Below average perfor¬mance.
F 0.0: Failure. Inferior performance

All members of the faculty are encouraged to consider the grade of C+ as the grade for average level performance by a Fordham student. While circumstances may vary, a consistent pattern of giving predominantly very high grades will be viewed with concern. Grade inflation hurts students by undermining the Universitys reputation with graduate and professional schools.

I'm assuming the grading may be slightly easier over the summer sessions?

summer sessions dont count toward your gpa though, do they?

Sorry I didn't see these posts earlier, but yes, grading is relatively easier during summer sessions and yes summer classes do count towards your gpa.
Grading is easier because, for the most part, kids are devoting part of their summer to get ahead and the profs take that into heavy consideration.

yes sarit, they do!
