Hi, I know it is possible to graduate hs with an associate’s degree by doing concurrent enrollment. Is it worth it? Will it lower my chances of getting into college after high school? I currently do concurrent enrollment, but not with the intention of receiving a degree or certificate. I checked, and it looks like I will be able to complete my general education requirements quite easily with the classes I already plan to take. Should I kill two birds with one stone and complete the rest of what I need to get an AA degree? I understand it may be difficult juggling both hs and these classes, but if it benefits me, then I am willing to do it.
Yes, if you can handle it. I was a dual enrolled student and an AP student simultaneously this year; it wasn’t always easy but it was worth it in the long run. I still have a fair amount of credits to complete in college because I only started this year.
Will your CC classes count as high school requirements? They do for kids at my school and they still have tight schedules trying to fit all the necessary requirements in junior and senior year. It’s definitely possible for them but if you’re having to take extra high school classes on the side idk if its doable or worth it. Do you have to pay for CC classes? If so, it might be good to just take the GE reqs that you need.
Yes, the community college classes count for high school requirements at my school. The classes are free but there is a unit limit. If you take more classes than that limit, you must pay.
Do you live in WA state by any chance?
No I live in California.
Ah ok nvm. I just know it’s fairly common for kids to be able to get an AA in high school in WA, no idea about Cali.
I go to “lower-ranked” high school and I don’t know anyone at my school who has done so. However, there’s a high school near me that is placed within a community college. The students graduate with both a high school diploma and an AA degree. I didn’t apply because of transportation reasons, but it seems like a good opportunity.
I knew somebody who did that last year. She was also a teen mom. It’s possible, but in no way easy. If you work hard and stay on top of things I’m pretty sure you can do it. Really focus on making a schedule that works right for you. And be prepared to take classes at times you might not be used to. I have another friend on track to get her AA before HS Diploma and she had to deal with a lab that didn’t end until like ten at night. As long as you have good time management and a good work ethic I think it’s possible.
