If I'm in law school now and will be finishing up in a year (and I did my undergrad 20 years ago), and I want to apply for a grad program at Columbia (I'm thinking of something in the School of International Affairs) -- would the grad school require that I submit just my recent law school grades, or would they also want to look at my undergrad grades from 20 years ago. Thanks.

I would assume your law school grades would suffice, but I don't think anyone here on the board right now can say for sure. I do know that for business school applications, the farther removed your undergrad years were, the less important they are in the admissions question. It matters a lot for those applying who are 2-3 years out of college, but much less so for those who are 10 years out.

It may well be that, for the sake of protocol, they'll want you to submit a transcript from college - but the odds are they won't weigh it significantly at all.

I don't get it. You presumably did something else for 20 years, then applied to law school, then decided being a lawyer isn't for you, then decided that you want to go to some graduate school at Columbia even though you're not sure what you want to study?

you will probably need to show them undergrad grades, but as denzera said they will be weighed less than your performance in law school and your work experience. I'm certain that dismal undergrad grades would not get you rejected at this point in your career though i'm sure your experience will be thoroughly scrutinized.

C02, he may want to practice international law of some sort, or acquire a specific skill set for use with a particular job he has lined up. Seriously, why mock him? What on earth was the purpose of that?

It's not mocking. I'm highly curious... it's a really strange post.

He is seeking "to apply for a grad program at Columbia." As for specifics, he is "thinking of something." It doesn't seem like there's a particularized and definite focus there.
