I’ve recently changed my major from ChemE to Biochemistry and talked to my new advisor about graduate school options. He told me I’d need to get basically a 4.0 for the next four semesters to have a chance at biochemistry graduate school. This is really scaring me.
I have a GPA of about 3.2 right now (that’s from 3 semesters in engineering/intro science classes)
My stem GPA is currently about a 3.0 (I got a C in Engineering Calc 2/3, which was during my first semester in college and an accelerated class)
I’ve been working in research for about a year in pharmaceutical engineering, but most of my work is now biochemistry-based. I’m working on a funded project this summer in the same lab.
I’ve had leadership positions in a professional fraternity, an honors fraternity, and the university marching band.
I still have 5 semesters left of college, at least. I was thinking about taking an extra semester because my engineering classes have left me dangerously behind on gen eds.
Am I completely screwed for biochemistry grad schools already? Are my chances better if I major in chemistry and aim for grad school outside of medical colleges?
