Hi, I’m new to the message boards. Though it seems there are more undgergrads here, I was hoping you could give me some insight. I’m interested in attending Brown’s graduate school (MPA program). Can anyone offer insights on Brown’s student life for graduate students? Thanks!!

Not too much. My daughter had many close friends who were grad students though. All through her undergrad years there, though more when an upperclassman when she was very involved with research, so some colleagues, some friends. Some on 5 years masters program. Grad students are kinda the Kings of the college. Since there aren’t so many as at other schools, they tend to be treated very respectfully and serve as mentors to undergrads along with the faculty.

I know that some departments have weekly teas with faculty, cause my dd used to go as she has so many grad student friends. There is exchange of ideas and what you are working on etc. As a matter of interest, she was shocked to visit UCLA as accepted grad student to find they didn’t even have department teas! The horror! It seriously played into her decision, all having to do with collaborative environment. But how appalling!

Off campus housing is easy and within blocks of campus. There are little pockets of interesting neighborhoods on college hill, Providence is not considered exciting by most, but has enough to offer as far as I can see.
