<p>I’m currently a freshman at a small liberal arts school considering Brown for graduate school. I was wondering what it’s like there if anyone has any firsthand insight. I don’t even know if graduate school in general is different from undergrad in terms of social life, but can anyone tell me about the social aspects of Brown’s graduate school specifically? And please don’t tell me that it’s terrible to pick a grad school based on the social life, I’m not. I already know Brown is a great school academically, I’m just curious about the social aspect.</p>

<p>I’m an accepted PhD student for the geological sciences program.</p>
<p>And yes - the students there seem really happy, but I’ve heard that the chemistry students aren’t necessarily happy.</p>
<p>One thing: the professors do seem A LOT more caring and personal than they seem anywhere else. Here, the PhD students are less “separated” from the undergrads than they are at other schools.</p>
<p>I think most department have weekly grad student teas to meet up. I know that my daughter went to the CS one as a Senior, likely because she was working on research w/ some grad students.</p>

<p>But Lily, you pick a grad school based on your research interests and how they align with the faculty as much as the quality of the overall program.</p>
