Hi,

I'm an international student from Australia looking to return to Graduate studies and am hoping to get a bit of help concerning some questions I have.

A quick spiel on my background. I graduated with a B.Eng (Mechanical) with second class Honors and a B.S. majoring in Applied Mathematics. I finished with a GPA of 6.095/7.0 and using some conversion tables I've found online this seems to roughly equate to a 3.48/4.0. Since graduating I've been working as an Engineer (about 2.5 years) in the oil & gas industry including about 12 months of field work. I also undertook approximately 18 months of research during my undergraduate studies. I've taken the GRE and managed a 800Q/430V/5.0.

So, the questions I have that I could use some assistance with are:

Are my GRE scores good enough? Other than the verbal, I'm happy buts hould I retake it to try and bump this up or is there not as much emphasis on this for Engineering programs?

Im looking to get into a Masters program in Mechanical Engineering. Heres the mix of schools I selected that I would like to get into. Are these realistic with my qualifications and experience? Or are the top 2 or 3 basically a no go? Any suggestions here would be appreciated as I dont have a whole lot to go by other than Google and ranking websites.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology
University of California--Berkeley
University of Texas--Austin (Cockrell)
Texas A&M University--College Station (Look)
Pennsylvania State University--University Park
Rice University
Harvard University
University of Washington
University of TexasArlington

My other option that I am contemplating, is to study a Biomedical Masters in the UK and apply for Biomedical Engineering PhD programs in the US. Would a Masters help me get into some of the more selective programs or is it still a gamble with my qualifications? I do have an interest in Biomedical Engineering, but Mechanical Engineering specialising in Robotics or Control is my number 1 choice.

Apologies for the essay length post! Any help or advice is hugely appreciated.

Cheers
