Dang. You had strong ECs, grades and SAT scores but you still didnt get into UCLA?

@onlythebest13 Yup, denied. A close friend of mine from home was also denied, and is instead attending USC on a full-tuition scholarship.

With such an awful sophomore year GPA and an imperfect junior year GPA, your capped UC GPA probably is not very high. I am surprised that UC San Diego and UC Irvine accepted you for computer science. Perhaps they liked your upward trend from 10th grade to 11th grade.

Since when were Bs “awful”?

Careful applied to some very competitive schools. For those schools, every B will damage a student’s chance of being accepted. In addition, Careful received a “C” in AP Chem, which in my opinion, is awful. Furthermore, computer science is incredibly impacted.

<a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/</a>
I am positive that Careful’s capped UC GPA is below 4.00. The UCs give more weight to GPA than to SAT scores.

My capped UC GPA is 4.00. My SAT score is 2300. I took the same subject tests and I also scored an 800 on Math II, but my Physics score was 740. My intended major was computer science for most schools. I was rejected by UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and Cal Poly SLO. I was waitlisted by UCD and UCI. I believe my stats are better than Careful’s. Thus, I believe Careful is very lucky with admissions.

Also, the purpose of posting admission results is so that others can find trends and patterns with college admissions. I made a very meaningful post in which I analyzed that the UCs must have liked Careful’s upward trend from 10th to 11th grade. You, on the other hand, just want to argue with me.

what the… how did those schools reject you???

@thegrant‌
Because my GPA was awful, and I had a downward trend. However, I have never received anything below a “B.”

Honestly, a 3.76 GPA is not awful — I dont understand why these schools would deny you other than a slight(very slight) lack of EC’s. Idk when i read this thread i was really surprised I think you should have gotten into most of those schools.

@thegrant‌
You are correct. 3.76 is not awful. However, Careful’s 3.76 GPA includes Freshman year. The UCs calculate GPA using only Sophomore and Junior year grades. As a result, for the UCs, Careful’s GPA is actually much lower.

My GPA is actually lower than 3.76 because I did not have a perfect Freshman year. However, my Sophomore + Junior years’ GPA is probably better than Careful’s.

@‌Mangiafucco My capped UC GPA was a 3.92. When I entered my data into the link you provided, my chances for UCLA were “Holy smokes!”

@Careful‌
That website uses outdated data. Do not take its predictions seriously. Only use it to calculate your capped UC GPA.

@Mangiafuoco‌ I’m hardly arguing against you. I’m just questioning the logic behind your post of why the OP’s GPA was so awful. After reading your follow-up post though I understand what you mean and I agree that his/her GPA could have been higher.
