I made a thread like this a little while back, but I've gotten new AP/SATII scores back + a new list of colleges.

Service:

As a preface, I don't really have the traditional "I worked X amount of hours at Y hospital" or anything like that. I was diagnosed with CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) in 2005, so I helped raise awareness in a variety of ways I will list. As for those who may doubt my chances for the lack of leadership positions, I would counter by saying that while although I don't have the volume of "I am treasurer of X organization" or whatever, I have pursued my role as leader in this cause; I am quite literally the poster child of this disorder. This will by my essay topic

Did multiple media interviews
-was on Fox news (the mike and juliet show) to help raise awareness
-was the cover story of the Star Ledger (top 10 highest circulation newspapers)
-did some local television interviews
National pediatric spokesperson for the CFIDS Association
Youth trustee for the New Jersey branch of CFIDS Association (only youth trustee in any branch)
Appeared in a traveling CFS exhibit that had stations in Grand Central Station, the Mall of America, and the Capitol Building
Was the keynote speaker at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and Research Center at a convention; spoke in front of ~500 people
Currently have a book deal with a small publishing agency based in Seattle; the concept has been approved... now i just have to start writing haha

Now that you've slogged through all of that, I would like to know my chances at the following: (BTW my mother went to Princeton undergrad and my father matriculated from Penn)

Princeton, UPenn, Yale, Williams, Vanderbilt, Middlebury, Tufts, Boston College, Ursinus

Thanks everyone :D

Bump /10char

Princeton - reach/in
UPenn - in
Yale - reach
all the rest - easy in

good chances at all those schools because of your unique experiences

bumpasaurus rex

I wouldn’t say that since it’s impossible for anyone to be considered “in” at Princeton/Yale, but you do have good chances :)

First off, 121212, NO ONE could ever be “in” to both UPenn and Princeton. That’s crazy.

That said, Benard3, calm down with the bumps. Bump=Bring Up My Post. Your post was at the top - we all saw it. When people want to respond, they will. You don’t need to bump it literally 22 minutes after the previous post.

You are clearly EXTREMELY passionate about CFS. Your level of involvement is quite remarkable - definitely the MOST passion I think I have seen on any CC post. You should be commended for your work on CFS. You will have an excellent experience/perspective to talk about, one that almost no one will be able to say. Most importantly, this is something that has both physically AND emotionally affected you (I’m assuming). You truly exemplify passion. I wish everyone could see this who laundry lists stupid, unrelated activities like “I’m president of cooking club, swing dance club, video games club, NHS, and key club!”, and just can’t get that doing those things doesn’t display passion.

Good luck on the book deal. That would be incredible if you got that. I think that you have truly, a very good chance at all these schools. I have almost never thought that about many people on CC.

They say passion and initiative are supposed to be the 2 most important factors in a student for acceptance. You have shown enough of that in your CFS experience. And combined with your SAT score, you have a good shot at any school. It would be too ambitious of anyone to say ‘in’ for UPenn OR Yale. Good luck!

Extracurriculers look good!
btw, before I can go to further detail, are you a rising senior or junior?

Your extracurriculars are AMAZING!!! You’ve definitely shown that you can really just tackle anything - you would be a great leader, and I think the colleges will notice that. Your GPA is about average for the schools you mentioned, and your SAT score is EXCELLENT! You’ll definitely get into all the schools you mentioned (although Princeton and Yale will be a little trickier - they always are for everyone). Would you need FA? And being a legacy should help at UPenn, maybe at Princeton too. Are you planning on EDing somewhere, cause that could also help a lot.

Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/954953-am-i-right-track-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html</a> :)

You have a lack of awards, but that is your only weak spot on this app. Decent grades combined with great test scores (besides Math II), a compelling story, and unique interests (a Jewish table tennis player? Impressive).

For your reach schools, you’ll be accepted based on where they think you’re a good fit for. You certainly have the merits to attend all of them, but chances are you won’t be accepted simply because they look for fit. My best advice to you is not to get discouraged through the admissions cycle. Best of luck!
