Currently, I am a sophomore in high school. I am in a few clubs (Key Club, Best Buddies) and am going to continue joining a few throughout this year. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and all four core classes are honors (with an AP history class). I am taking the PSAT in a few weeks and will be taking the SAT in the fall of next year. I moved from the east coast two years ago and will be moving back for college. It seems like a much more sensible idea to graduate a year early in order to move back and get in state tuition. My school is very unreliable about early graduation and discourage online classes because it does not boost rankings, but I am extremely interested and motivated. I wanted to take my second year of language online this year while taking Honors US History, Honors English 11, and Honors Pre-Calc over the summer. I am going to be taking an AP English, one honors/one AP Science, honors Math and an honors World Language next year. I can handle any course load thrown at me and that is not any concern to me whatsoever. If I were to continue with my current graduating class, I would only be taking three classes my senior year which seems pointless. My dream schools are NYU, Drexel, and Boston University. The thought of continuing another two and a half years at school discourages me from everything I want to pursue. I am extremely mature for my age and getting the high school “experience” is not that important to me. I haven’t made many close friends since I moved and know that because of my good grades, early graduation is an option. I would really like to lessen the debt for my parents and pursue a university as soon as possible. For anyone who has any advice, what are your thoughts? Do these schools discourage early graduation and what extracurriculars/classes will better my high school resume?
(Heavy emphasis that the course load I will be taking on and the high school experience I will be “missing out on” is not more important to me than my career!)
I get the high school experience isn’t important to you as opposed to your career but hear me out…
I am pretty sure I want to major in SLP, but I don’t want to graduate early. High school provides you with so many opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to you. In high school you can take classes that interest you, that aren’t required, for FREE, but at college it costs money. For this reason, I wouldn’t, because you could be missing out on a potential class that will totally change the way you think!
