I am currently a freshman majoring in Kinesiology. I want to add psychology as a double major but I am concerned whether it is possible to graduate in 4 years with double major. Is it possible and if so has anyone done and any tips would be grateful. Thank you~
I do not know your particular situation such as how many AP hours you came in with but my initial reaction is that it is likley not possible to finish in four years that kind of double major.
Kinesiology is in the College of Applied Health Sciences while Psychology is in Liberal Arts & Sciences college. Thus, to do that double major requires that you to seek a double degree program, one from each college. When seeking a double degree you are required to complete the minimum number of hours needed for a degree in one college plus at least 30 hours. In other words, you need 128 hours to complete a Kinesiology degree. To be able to also get a Psycholgy major requires you to complete that plus at least 30 more hours. See, e.g., LAS Rules for Second Degrees section at http://www.las.illinois.edu/prospective/second/. Thus, 158 hours divided by 8 means you would need to take 20 hours per semester to complete the double degree in four years (8 semesters), and I am assuming that you are already well behind that schedule by taking less than 20 last semester and this semester.
