The National Center for Research Resources has awarded USC a major grant totaling nearly $22.5 million over five years. The grant will support the Biomedical Informatics Research Network Coordinating Center at SC.

SC is the lead partner in the project. With the grant, SC becomes a key leader in the emerging field of bioinformatics-the computerized analysis of biological data.

These are highlights from an article written by Christian Camozzi for USC News.

Kesselman is a expert in grid computing and supercomputing. This grant is for building facilities and tools, so it is more about computer science than the bioE IMHO. However, the bio majors definitely will benefit from the grant.

USC's Computational Biological Science is among the top programs in the nation though.
