I'm looking at majoring in graphic design at a major university. Does anyone know of schools with strong programs in that area in the midwest? I'd also like to keep up with orchestra, preferably in a smaller program. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Kansas City Art Institute. Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Washington University St. Louis

Many colleges and state universities in the midwest have undergraduate graphic design majors/concentrations. And of course you can also get involved in other activities including music at most of them.

Here are some to consider that have either a major or a concentration within an art/design program.

University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign)
Miami University (Ohio)
Penn State University (School of Visual Arts)
Western Michigan University (School of Art)
Drake University (School of Art)
University of Kansas (School of Fine Arts)
Illinois State University (Normal, Illinois -- School of Art)
Washington University (St. Louis)

OH yes, check out the University of Michigan and the University of Indiana at Bloomington.

Great design program at University of Cincinnati (DAAP)

This is a highly rated program and also they have multiple music programs in the city.....including Chicago Civic Orchestra
