I'm a senior in college and I'm about to take AP Calc AB so I know that I'll need a graphing calculator for the class.
I was thinking about buying a TI 89 titanium but I'm having second thoughts because I don't know if it'll be useful after high school.
I want to major in neuroscience and go through the pre med route, so will I be using a graphing calculator a lot during college?

bump is an expensive graphing calculator worth it for neuroscience majors and pre med students?

if i were you, i would get a TI84+ or (if your short on cash) a TI83+. Im a rising senior and ive been using mine since 7th grade. By far the best purchase i have ever made, its paid for itself a hundred times over. I can’t be sure for the college part though, but i’m sure that in any case or situation a graphing calculator will be a great asset.

Also, i think you mean “senior in HS” in your post at the beginning, you said senior in college but then started talking about after HS and majoring.

DO NOT get the TI-89. Stick with the 84 or 83, it is all you will ever need.

I have an 89 and had to go buy an 83 because most people don’t know how to use the 89, because it is vastly different from the 84/83. A lot more expensive too.

FWIW, you can get by with a good scientific calculator in college if you are only studying biology based topics. Calculating pH levels doesn’t take much.

I never unpacked my high school calculator in college (it was a 1993 vintage TI-83). I used a simple calculator for everything from Physics to Stats. I don’t remember having to use a graphing calculator for anything except Calc, but I took it so long ago that I can’t recall for sure.

Nero-science, I doubt it. Unless you do not have a graphing calculator already then its not worth it.

Here’s another vote for the 83/84. Only buy the TI-89 if you have a definite reason for needing that model.

Thanks everyone for the reply!
Darn, yeah I mistakenly put college instead of high school XD
sorry for the confusion.
My cousin has a TI83 that she is planning to give me so I’ll just use that for senior year.

Ti89 is totally worth it because it has CAS

HP50G enough said!

If you are going into engineering, math, or physics, then get one. If not which you said something about neuroscience, then I would probably not get one.
