GRE Scoring

My Daughter just took the GRE first time yesterday and got a range of 740-800 Q and 600-700 V. Does anyone know why they are giving a range and how they determine the real score? If I assume she gets the middle scores, it will be 770 Q and 650 V and the total will be 1420 which it is same as her SAT score.

They give a range because they’re in the process of equating the old (200-800) scores with the new scale (130-170). They won’t know exactly how they correspond until November.

Do you mean they will use new score (130-170) instead of old score (200-800)? Hope they will have a conversion table between the old score and new score.

I think I understand the reason now. I believe each test’s degree of difficulty is different. A person who makes the same number of errors in two different tests may not get the same score. Therefore, based on the prior tests, ETS can only give you a range. In other words, in more difficult test, your score will be higher and in a more easier test, your score will be lower even you make the same number of mistakes.

The projected new scores are greatly inflated. Don’t set your hopes too high.

I just took a practice test through Kaplan (online) and they provided the 100-point range. Have practice test ranges been quality predictors for anyone?
