Were your revised GRE scores within your provided range?

If you are confused by my question then you probably took only the old GRE and are unfamiliar with the current system of the revised GRE. If that's the case then this thread will not interest you too much.

To all those that are fortunate enough to finally have your official scores back:
Were these scores within the range that you were provided with immediately after the test? If so, were they at the high end of your range, the low end of your range, or about the middle of your range?

Thanks

My scores weren’t in my range at all! The range I got for math, for example, was 750-800, but I only got a 169 on this new test.

warbrain,

That score of 169 is in the range of 750-800. See the posting below for the table of equivalent test scores.

Warbrain is clearly being silly in this instance, since the highest score available on this particular quant section was a 166, if I understand correctly.

And to answer your question, yes, my scores were within the provided range.

No, I think that the highest equivalent score for those who took the old test was 166, but it is definitely possible to get higher than that in the new test.

warbrain is right. They tried to align the scores up with the percentiles more than they were in the past, which I think is a good thing.

And yes, my scores were in the estimated range.

Nope, my scores missed the estimated range. I got an equivalent of a V690 on the old GRE but ETS had projected V710 - 800. My math scores were very close to the low end border as well but it barely made it.

The projected scores were inflated to a degree. As one poster pointed out, the range ETS gave us was very vague; but, ETS really didn’t have much of an idea how to score the exam.

What about the revised GRE? How are the score ranges translating?

First of all, it is possible that scores in the old quant scale translate to a score above a 166. As far as i know, before a 800 quant score encompassed various percentiles at the top, meaning you could of missed a couple questions and still gotten a 800. Now they want to differentiate between the top percentiles and hence distributed the percentiles between 166-170 and it seems that ETS saves the raw score you got before, hence an old 800 can be anywhere between 166 and 170, with 170 attainable by those who scored a perfect raw score etc.

A question i have: it seems by the responses given by you guys here and other threads that the estimated score given by ETS was not a true indicator for you guys that took the revised test in August etc. This seems normal given the lack of data they had. However, i just took the test on Nov 3, by now they have more data from all the people that have taken it from August to November, do you think the estimated scores given to me (and all people who took in November) are a better indicator than the erroneous ones given to the earlier sittings given that they have 3 months worth of data to make their predictions accurate?

I’m wondering if they had already done some preliminary adjusting of ranges by September, since mine seems to have been accurate, whereas the ranges missed low for those who took it earlier.

Do you mind disclosing your estimated scores vs the official ones?

I got estimated 750-800 quant, 440-540 verbal and im wondering around what part of the intervals will my final scores lie.

I got an estimated 750-800 verbal and 730-800 quant. I got 99th percentile on verbal, so that was accurate, and I got a 159 on the quant, which on the concordance chart is a 750. So I hit in my verbal range and got on the low to mid end on my quant range.

Well, It seems the new test also got me but I made solution near by the estimated quota for marks. I know this was a difficult test I also scored some near by the estimated score, than I searched some question online and it was pretty difficult to give answer even there. Now I am using GRE study guides for my next test because this time I don’t want to ruin the English and quant section of GRE test. I am thinking if the new GRE test could decrease the level for question. But now feel confident because of online reference of taking online gre course and GRE study guides. Well do you guys preparing again for the new test and what’s going to be your strategy.

Where do I find the equivalent scoring chart?

I just got my scores for my Nov 3 sitting. I will put the new scale score that I got, the corresponding old scale score according to table, and the estimated score I was given when I finished the test.

QUANT - new score: 168, old score: 800, estimated after test: 750-800
VERBAL - new score: 151, old score: 470, estimated after test: 440-540

Btw here is the concordance table:
