hey guys, what do u think i should do to increase my vocabulary substantially for the general gre if I'm going to take it in say 2+ years?

Read books. Maybe your textbooks, maybe Victorian fiction, just read books. It's really that simple.

well yeah.. but there are different types of books. I just don't know where to start.

I need to know what sources I should look into. While reading books do build vocabulary, certain books are just more sophisticated than others. There is no point in reading a book in which contains 1 advanced word every 10 sentences.

Read scholarly articles, including those from outside of your primary field of study. I recommend articles from the fields of Classics, English literature, and Critical / Cultural Studies (especially postmodernist criticism). Read classic and contemporary fiction, from the 19th century to the present -- from Dickens to Vollmann. Look up every single word you do not understand.

Any previous study of Latin and/or Greek will also be tremendously effective in enabling you to identify the meanings of root words, as well as those of prefixes and suffixes.

and always have a dictionary beside you :)

Learn Latin. Even a year's worth will help tremendously.
