what is great books?

and what's classic civilizations?

are they both required for honors?

Basically, Great Books is Greek Literature, Classic Civ is ancient Greek history. For Honors, you have to do two "Literature and Ideas" courses, and the first course has to be one of those two. Both of them also count for your LSA first year writing requirement.

I'd say something like 90% of Honors freshmen opt to take Great Books. It's probably the best choice partially because practically everybody in Honors takes it, and also because it counts towards distribution.

oh okay

does classic civ not count toward distribution?

They should both be humanities (HU) courses. "Lit. and Ideas" is not a distribution requirement but rather an Honors Program requirement. You can choose either for your first-year writing requirement.
