Hey guys, I’m going to Brown this fall and I’m trying to pick out some good Fresh-year Seminar and CAP classes for the fall. However, I don’t know which to choose when I saw the looong list of interesting courses. Can somebody give me some suggestions? My interests are history, english, biology, literature, math and classics

I have no experience with any of these courses, and a few of the recent threads on here have other people’s perspectives on good FYS’s, but some that struck me as relevant to Classics (though not necessarily courses I’d take - I ultimately decided that I’d be better off without an FYS for more or less unique reasons) are Friendship in the Ancient World, Troy Rocks!, Sport in the Ancient Greek World, and The World of Lyric Poetry. Personally, I’d prefer the last of those, but my interest in classics is in languages and literature, rather than culture. In the Spring is Virgil and Milton. Nothing really jumped out at me for math. Do you have access to the Critical Review yet? That would be a good resource for looking up professors.

I heard Troy Rocks! is really bad… As I said many times, Writers on Writing is amazing and highly recommended. Into the Machine is very interesting as well. both are in the lit arts dept.
