Great CR/Math but BAD WRITING---does that matter enough to re-take?

math-800
CR-780 (screwed up excoriate with execrate)
writing-700?!?! i got a 720 last time with a 7 essay and 78 MC (time before that was a 10 essay and 70 MC with no study or prep at all) but now this after i thought i wrote a killer essay for 10+ and did just as well on the MC...any thoughts? i only got a 9 on this essay, but somehow got a 70 on the MC when i thought i had done great on it! should i risk the hand-scoring bringing down my other 2 to raise this? ***! should i take it again for the 4th time...i think i could get an 800 on CR and know i could do better on writing (like 770 range) and don't know how i screwed up the writing MC so bad? i wanna re-take it but do i need to?

I got 800,800,690. I'm not retaking - it's just an irrelevent test score - some schools don't even consider it. And the odds that your other 2 scores will decrease are much higher.

Oh man that sucks, Spartan. I mean, your scores are great, but just that if you had taken the old SAT, you could have said you got a perfect score. Now there's like an asterisk next to your perfect score.

if i know which CR q i missed and had gotten it correct, would my 780 have been a 790 or 800?

lol why does it matter tsmall? you missed it, its over. And you didn't just miss one, you probably missed 3, so don't pin it on one question. It's not like you need to justify getting a 780. I woudn't retake that though.

my writing sucked too... did HORRIBLE.

i would retake, since colleges only look at the top score in each section

"i would retake, since colleges only look at the top score in each section"

REALLY?!?! i never knew that!!

Dear opening post person:

You do NOT need to retake. 700 is FINE.

I trump all of you guys in terms of the gap between CR and W.
my scores-800 CR, 630 writing!!!!
ahhhhh, my math is mediocre-700. So I'm seriously confused about what to do next.
I've already taken the New SATs twice and the old ones once. So that's already like 3 times. But a 170 difference LOOKS EXTREMELY SHADY and that's just leaving a giant question mark for colleges.
oh man, grammar is the bane of my existence.

"'grammer' is the bane of my existence"

i can see that.

700 is actually pretty good for the new SAT Writing because a couple errors can really hurt your score. Plus, it will not play a great role in college admissions this year because its so different from SAT II Writing, which had a more reasonable scale. Retaking seems to be a waste of time in your case. Congrats on the 1580!

I wouldn't retake it. If it's one section that you're weak at . . . writing would be ideal, since colleges aren't going to pay as much attention to it this year. And your overall score is 2280, which is fine.

yeh, thanks everyone. i think i'm done, but i may shoot for a 36 on the ACT in september. i was close this time but a 30 on science (one sections is always bad lol) hurt me. this will be my 3rd ACT but i won't send the score until i know what i got and see if i improved.
