great LAC's for sciences ?

hey guys, which LAC's have a top, strong science program (for students who intend to major in premed) ?

Harvey Mudd

Wesleyan (10 char)

ehhh you probably shouldn't come here to HMC if you want to go to med school

any of the top 50 will prepare you just fine for med school

Be aware that the top schools (like Wesleyan) don't have a "major" in pre med. They may have pre med advising, but you have to major in something else.

yeah. hmc's grade deflation and rigorous curriculum will make getting into med school difficult. ironically, you'll be superiorly prepared.

which LACs are known for their grade deflation? which are known for grade inflation?

Well, I'm a senior in HS right now and I plan to go to med school, so I've been doing a fair bit of research myself and I've determined that Oberlin, Kenyon and IL Wesleyan have particularly strong biology programs. The other LAC's that I'm applying to (Earlham, Knox, Beloit, Denison) have strong programs, too.

Honestly, any "top" LAC will have a strong science program.

Bowdoin, Wellesley, Holy Cross all have great pre-med programs.

par72, can you elaborate on Holy Cross pre-med program?

Amherst College's premed program is quite strong, under the experienced tutelage of Prof. Steve George. The neurosciences major is popular, and of course, students aren't competing with graduates for lab space or time with advisors, so the opportunity for publications (which Medical Schools rank highly in the admissions process) is excellent in any of the science majors.

Pomona is great for premed. 90% of the Pomona students that apply for med school get in.
