Great Summer Programs for Creative Writing

@desie1 I just got accepted into Sewanee today, too!

Still waiting to hear from Kenyon, though. Results come out on April 1.

@sunbloom I think Kenyon states that decisions will be mailed the last week of March. What are you going to do about the fact that Sewanee wants the payment by April 1st, and Iowa doesn’t notify until 4/1?

Anyone here from UVA yet? They’re supposed to send results out today, and I’m so nervous, but I received no e-mail yet (mailbox had nothing from UVA).

My daughter is waiting for UVA also, but she hasn’t received anything yet. It is supposed to be emailed today.

@desie1 Okay good, that makes me feel a little bit relieved. I have two major assessments tomorrow and can’t focus properly without knowing if I got in the program or not. ;(

@SirSly‌ Just got the email. It was a waitlist notification.Good luck to you!

@desie1 I got into the UVA Program! I’m so excited; good luck to your daughter in whichever writing program she decides to choose!

That is great! Enjoy it!!!

@SirSly I also got into UVA, but I won’t be attending as I got into my second choice a few weeks ago. Did you apply to any others or was that your first choice?

@sfijm23 UVA was the only program I applied to, so I’m very happy about being accepted. Next year, I’ll try to apply at Iowa, Kenyon, Sewanee, Alpha, etc.

@sirsly Congratulations then! If I don’t get into Iowa I might try to do it next year as a rising college freshman. Have a fun summer!

Has anyone heard from Kenyon yet?

Nothing in Florida. From past threads, they mailed out decisions last year on Monday the 25th… And in 2013 people started getting them on the 28th. So they have to be on their way, right?

@starklyI really hope so! My daughter is fine with waiting, but I am impatient for all results!

Just got it today… Waitlisted. Guess it’s better than the rejection letter I got last year. Still have my fingers crossed, but I’m really glad I accepted NYU’s offer…

@starkly You got Kenyon Young Writers conference today? We still didn’t hear. What creative writing program is at NYU?

Hey guys! Just got accepted into Kenyon. I’ll probably be going to Sewanee, though.

@sunbloom We still didn’t hear yet from them, but CONGRATULATIONS! Always nice to hear good news.
What is the main reason you prefer Sewanee? Does Kenyon make you do all genres instead of just focusing on one?

NYU has a dramatic writing program for scriptwriting. It’s a monthlong (and supposedly crazy intensive) in the center of New York City. You attend plays and hear talkbalks from performers/directors/screenwriters, work with actual NYU professors, and write A LOT. Seriously. I saw somebody say they were up til 2am a lot just trying to complete all the coursework.

Supposedly it helps a ton with Tisch admissions, because you know the professors and have a “NYU approved” portfolio. I don’t know if that’s where I’ll end up in 2016, but the program sounds amazing.

It starts on July 12 when Kenyon (S1) ends on July 11, so I was hoping to do both in quick secession… Kenyon has pretty much been my dream since freshman year. No joke, this program was on my dream board for English class. Last year I was rejected and now… this. NYU probably fits better with how I am now, but the idea of not being accepted at all here makes my inner fourteen year old scream.

Probably unhealthy to ask but… @sunbloom‌ What session were you accepted for?

For all the kids reading this in the future: I asked on the phone when I first submitted my app and Kenyon does give preference to Juniors and it does look strongly at the fact that you’ve applied before. Just not very strongly, apparently.
