Greek Life and Social Scene

i've haven't heard a ton about the greek life dominating the social scene. does it. i hope not. i was debating between stanford and duke and duke has a very greek reputation. are there major non greek activities besides sports games to do at stanford. can someone just quickly sum up the usual social scene. is it greek, are there a lot of cliques... and i was wondering if the hispanic student population makes a visible impact on campus, or do they hide in the background?

also, are thier any nearby beaches? i heard they are about 30 minutes away from campus. are there shuttle or buses to take you? hows the city (not san francisco) around stanford's campus.

Stanford doesn't have a greek culture- it has a geek culture.

(Well, actually I don't know to what extent it's greek-ized.)

Stanford does have a thriving greek culture, and frat parties on the weekend are expected and fun. But most people are not in a fraternity or sorority, and for every weekend party by a greek house/organization, there a parties thrown by the other, non-greek row houses. The great dorm culture eliminates the need for fraternities and sororities.
