Social scene at Stanford

Can anyone (Stanford students preferably) tell me the social scene at Stanford? the parties? what kids do for fun? places to go for fun? major campus events? stuff like that...

also, can anyone tell me conditions at Stanford? and by that, I mean the food, dorms, campus sanity, etc.

Thanks.

Even though I only aspire to attend Stanford, I recommend you google "Erotic, exotic, Stanford" Its the name of a party. Sounds like fun!

I am a Stanford grad. Stanford has a very rich social scene. I've also heard that it has the richest social scene compared to many of the other top schools in the USA. For more information, the following unofficial guide to Stanford is helpful - <a href="http://techdev.stanford.edu:8080/unofficial/guide.html%5B/url%5D">http://techdev.stanford.edu:8080/unofficial/guide.html</a></p>

wow, this guide is very detailed, and interesting!

Places to go for fun?
Please note that San Francisco is only a 45 minute drive away...and basically anything and everything you could possibly want to do in a big city is here!

what about the people without cars?

Some1UKnow, I guess you haven't visited Stanford yet. It is one of the most beautifully landscaped colleges you will ever see. In fact, it's a little too well kept for me. I prefer the "keep it real" urban craziness of Cal Berkeley.

Stanford is in the heart of yuppie Silicon Valley. There will be plenty of social activities, sight seeing, etc., though the city of Palo Alto is a bedroom community that pretty much shuts down by 10 p.m. There are plenty of clubs for the 21+ crowd in San Francisco, San Jose, Mountain View and Los Gatos. There will be off-campus concerts in San Francisco, Mountain View, Oakland and San Jose, and plenty of movie theaters within driving distance.

Someone else will have to speak directly to the on-campus social scene, but chances are, you will be too busy studying during the week, and will party hard mostly on weekends.

People are friendly on campus. Just make friends with a dorm mate who has a car, so that you can get around the Bay Area.

You'll do fine! Just don't expect to get drunk and/or stoned every night. And given the price of a Stanford education, I don't understand why anyone would want to.

I think you can catch a train to San Francisco and other places. Check out <a href="http://techdev.stanford.edu:8080/unofficial/plane.html%5B/url%5D">http://techdev.stanford.edu:8080/unofficial/plane.html</a></p>

The train to SF is only a Marguerite ride (or a 10 minute bike/20 minute walk from the Quad) away. It takes a little over an hour, but once you're in SF you can just catch the Muni busses to wherever you want to go. It's a great day trip, especially if you decide to leave on the 11:41 on a Friday after having had class at 10. Still have a full day in the city! Just be careful not to miss the 8pm unless you want to wait around for the 10pm train back!

I think the social scene at stanford is freaking awesome. I went to SF 3 times and to Berkeley once (other than big game) and otherwise took the occasional car ride in someone else's car to somewhere special like Mountain View or Menlo Park, but other than that the time i spent off campus was limited to strolls downtown, which is only a marguerite ride away. Sure, there's nothing open past 10pm, but that's when campus life begins, anyway.

Campus life is freaking awesome. Friday and Saturday are the big (usually frat, but not always) parties. Some people love 1000 people in the same room. Others hate it. To get out some pent up aggression dancing, they're great... but the sub-surface party scene (as in, the unadvertised across campus one) often has live bands, free alcohol, more space, and cooler people. Keep on the look out for parties your RAs send you e-mails about, but are otherwise unadvertised. The best example is Happy Hour at EBF every other Wednesday night... it's awesome, and you'll find a lot of the campus's best musical talent there.

And for the less "party"-inclined, Stanford has a wonderfully diverse campus in terms of social scene. Some of the coolest kids in Branner last year played video games late into the night. Some just chill in the hallway all year long. Others actually study (I don't understand it... :-P). The perfect college life is yours to have.

omg i was wishing someone would say that for a very long time. wow now im really ready to party it up in stanford. any cc'ers are invited to join me of course

If I get in, I'll party with you.

^^ count me in
