I was just accepted into W&L as a sophomore transfer student (yay!), and I was wondering about the Greek life here. I know like 80% of students are involved, but I’ve never considered joining a sorority until now (I’m from a big public uni where it’s not that important). Is it doable as a sophomore?
Being s sophomore won’t in and of itself hurt your chances. There’s a house for everyone at W&L; girls who are not what I thought of as sorority types at big unis have successful recruitments at W&L if they keep their options open and don’t get their hearts set on a particular house. Because Greek life is so big there, it is less exclusive.
Since rush takes place in January, you have the fall to get to know people, and as a transfer you will likely be in upper level classes, so you’ll know more of the actives. Join a few clubs that interest you and behave yourself at parties so you don’t inadvertently hook up with someone’s ex.
I will second what @yauponredux says
