Hello,
I plan on going through formal Fall recruitment. I'm a transfer student, so I'll be a junior by the time I am enrolled. Does this put me at a huge disadvantage, knowing that most of the other girls will be freshman, which is more preferred? Will I still be able to get a bid from a house I would want?

I also was wondering about dues. Almost all of my finances will be through financial aid, so I think the majority of my living expenses will be through the loans I receive from the school. Am I allowed to do that, will they be paid on time, and is that typical? I would love to just have a break down of living expenses and how you handled them if possible.

Also, I went to greek preview and saw only 5 houses. Which are the more preferred and which are the ones to stay away from?

Hey! I am in the same position as you. I am transferring as a junior and I have talked to some girls currently in sororities and they say that it is not a disadvantage to be a junior, and it is common for sophomores and juniors to rush even though it is mostly freshmen. I have the same questions about the dues and the houses. Let me know if you hear any more information!

Hey, I’m in a similar situation and have the exact same questions. I just got in as a transfer to UW and want to rush (I’ll be a sophomore). It’s definitely good to here that we probably won’t be at a disadvantage. I’m just kind of worried about feeling out of place during rush week, since there will be mostly freshmen rushing.

Being a junior is, frankly, not ideal. Mostly because the active members are looking for someone who can be committed, and it’s hard to say you can be super committed when you only have two years left. However, it’s not impossible, and there IS a place for everyone.
Rushing as a sophomore is not nearly as much of an issue.

And, frankly, no one is ever guaranteed a bid from “the house they want.” One of the houses you like, probably. But “THE” house you want? Not a guarantee for anyone.

Dues are handled differently from chapter to chapter, I suggest contacting Panhellenic to see how chapters most generally handle things.

As for reputations, there’s no point telling you that! Going in with an open mind will result in a much better rush and better end result, you’re more likely to pick the chapter you really fit in with as opposed to one that has the “best rep”
