I heard MIT has some fraternities and sororities.
Are they really hardcore with partying?

yes, they are hardcore. However, they will only party with people who have an IQ of 175 or above…sorry.

One of the (unofficial) mottoes of MIT is “study hard, play hard.” Most of MIT’s fraternities certainly embody that ideal…but at the same time, Greek life is quite diverse at MIT. For instance, some fraternities focus on throwing one or two big parties each semester that attract hundreds of guests, whereas other fraternities prefer smaller but more frequent events. And some fraternities are just generally quiet.

I have more to say about the general social atmosphere of fraternities, and how they balance socializing with academics, if you’re interested. But since you asked specifically about parties, I’ll just leave my response at that for now.

The only blanket statement that can be made about MIT’s fraternities, sororities, and independent living groups is that no blanket statement can be made about them.

If you want to find a group of people to party with, you’ll find them at MIT. But not everybody is like that.

I completely agree.

The one thing I would add is that the character of each house is quite clear. As part of the rush process, you will get to meet the house and figure out if it is a good fit for you. Do you get along with all of the people there, and do they share your partying ethos, whatever that might be?
