I’m tempted to join Greek life at UChicago (I’ll be part of the freshman class next fall). I love meeting new people and socializing and the sorority life seems really appealing.
My parents say it’s too time-consuming but when I was there for the admitted students overnight, my host told me it’s not like that at all. Can anyone give a quick rundown on the pros and cons of joining a sorority, whether it’s at UChicago or anywhere else? Is it as time-consuming as my parents might think? What’s the social scene as a non-Greek life member like?
(My mom was part of a sorority when she was in college and has landed basically all of her jobs, including her current one, because of her sorority sisters, so she and I both know the advantages of the connections later in life. She’s just concerned that my grades won’t be good if I do something that’s too “distracting.”)
