<p>Would love to start a thread on the fraternity life. I'm concerned on how much of a time commitment is needed. My son will be a freshman and I worry about him getting his work done. Thanks for your input.</p>
<p>As no one has responded yet I thought I would give it a shot. I don’t feel there is much, if any, difference between the effect of rushing, then pledging, between sororities and fraternities at UD (they are both highly regulated). It does take up a lot of time and it is not uncommon for students to experience a decrease in their GPA if they are not careful. At least freshman students have the first semester to develop good study habits. I think this is critical to minimizing the possible negative effects from pledging. So this would be my suggestion to entering freshmen if they are considering entering Greek Life. The good news is that if you look at the average GPAs of Greek members overall (both male and female) they are actually higher then non Greek members at UD. Best wishes to your son.</p>
