Greek Life Rankings

I am thinking about rushing next fall or going through informal recruitment, and I wanted to know what the various reputations of the different sororitys on campus are. Any insight from students would be awesome. I would like to know which ones are the best in terms of campus involvement and highest GPA. Thanks!

I’m a Chapman parent. Have you try looking up the Chapman website under the sub-heading students for student and campus life? Then go to student clubs and organizations to look up contact information. You can call them, and they can answer your questions regarding the different clubs and organizations. Hope this will help.

Here is the general reputation for the sororities, but, of course, there are always exceptions to them so please keep that in mind.

Alpha Phi (APhi) - Almost always considered a top sorority. These girls are usually referred to as the hot, blonde girls (although there actually are a number of brunettes and not-so-hot ones), leading to the frats always wanting to get with them and a lot of them seem to have let their reputation get to them. Some of them are incredibly superficial, but every once in a while you’ll come across a genuine one. Nothing else to say about them really. I see them on campus wearing letters and they won Airbands this year, but that seems about it for campus involvement.

Gamma Phi Beta (Gamma Phi, GPhiB, GPhi) - Also almost always considered a top sorority. A commonly heard phrase about these girls is “they are the girls you want to marry.” They are very competitive - they won Greek Week this year and skit last year. They have the highest GPA on campus and are seen around a lot. I also tend to see them at a lot of events that Chapman puts on; they are probably one of the most active on campus. There are a lot of incredible girls in this sorority that I know and all of them that I’ve met were very nice. There are some who party and others that don’t. For those that do party, they usually keep it under the radar so they don’t hurt the sorority’s reputation. Apparently a rumor went around a few years ago that all of these girls were lesbians, but I have yet to meet one that is. In fact, a lot of them are in committed relationships with their boyfriends.

Delta Gamma (DG) - Sometimes considered a top sorority. Big partiers and sometimes referred to as the sluts. For example, I hear the phrase “they go down like an anchor” quite often. Of course, I have met the occasional very sweet DG that does not live up to their reputation at all. Also a somewhat competitive sorority at times - 2nd place in both Airbands and Greek Week this year. Really depends on the girl you meet, so don’t judge them by their reputation. I know some girls who wanted to drop because of all the drama in the sorority. Some appeared to put on this nice girl act, but could be quite mean. Also promised a lot of girls that they would get into their sorority this year, but it didn’t happen.

Delta Delta Delta (Tri Delta) - The new sorority on campus this year. Since they’re new, they don’t really have a reputation yet, but from what I’ve seen personally, there are a number of partiers. Might take some time to get this sorority going, but it looks promising.

Kappa Alpha Theta (Theta) - About mid-range, if you were to rank the sororities based on popularity. Full of really sweet girls, although as a group, there doesn’t seem to be an overall type of girl, leading people to call them a “random” sorority. All the ones I have met are very nice, however. Fairly involved on campus.

Alpha Gamma Delta (AGD) - Another sorority that isn’t quite as popular as the first three. During recruitment, they were often the sorority that people forgot about, but they are all very nice girls and not the typical sorority girl. Other than them repping their letters around campus, I haven’t seen them very involved.

Phi Sigma Sigma (Phi Sig Sig, Phi Sig) - A fairly random group of girls, so they don’t have the best reputation on campus because they aren’t that popular. Most of them are incredibly sweet, though, and are sometimes involved on campus.

As I said, there are always exceptions to the general reputation of the sorority. When you meet a girl, don’t judge her based on what sorority she is in, but rather on her character :)

This is kind of random, but does Greek life dominate the social scene? I’m kind of on the fence about rushing, so I was curious if that was a big factor in most student’s social life…

It is not a requirement to join Greek life. There are other activities such as community service and other organizations that you can participate in. Some students have work-study, internships or other part-time jobs, therefore, Greek life is not a big factor. Disneyland is near by, some students go there to social on the weekend. That is why Chapman is located in such a great place.

^ Thanks so much for answering :)

You’re welcome! :)

@jlr all the kids I talked to said greek is huge. The stats show a larger % in greek life than even USC has & with a school as small as Chapman they say it makes it really feel like it’s everywhere.

Thanks for the info almostthere23. Do you have any updates to add to your list? Thanks to anyone who posts! Wondering what the recent news is?

Also wondering the same thing as Cvhgfdsrty. Any updates would be much appreciated!
