<p>How do you feel/what do you know about NYU frats and sororities?</p>

<p>From what I heard about Greek life at NYU, it’s really not part of the school’s culture. I’m not sure how accurate this is, but people who join Greek life are looking for something that NYU just really doesn’t offer. If you want a school with active frats and sororities, NYU isn’t right for you.</p>
<p>there is an active greek life at nyu. it’s not necessarily for people who are “looking for something that NYU just really doesn’t offer”, many people stumble upon greek life or find themselves interested in it as their time progresses at nyu. because nyu is an open-minded school, the fact that people can do whatever they want without receiving judgement from others plays into most activities on campus. nyu greek life is not the same by any means as greek life at other schools. general, social organizations exist as a means for people to have fun and get to know people they might not meet elsewhere. while greek life is not, by any means, the norm around campus, many people choose to participate for their own reasons. i know for a lot of my friends who chose to go out this year for recruitment, their weekend experiences were greatly amplified by going greek. you don’t need it to have fun in a place like new york city, but it definitely can add something to your experience. </p>
<p>that being said, i’m putting in my plug for nyu separate from the thread topic: if you get the opportunity, GO HERE. best decision i have ever made in my life. many people say it doesn’t live up to their expectations, but for me, it has been everything and more.</p>
<p>I heard NYU Greek life went from 2 to 3% of the student population to 10% in 2010 - can anyone verify this? My neighbor who goes to NYU said she sees so many more people walking around in letters this year than before. I’m really interested in rushing so I’d love to know what Greek life is like from someone who is actually in it.</p>
<p>I would say things are changing rapidly and the Greek life is getting bigger lately due to complaints of lack of community. I’m not in Greek life, but I see people wearing letters all the time. The 10% thing is probably accurate; I saw an ad for NYU Greek life advertising that statistic, so I would believe that number to be true. You don’t have to be in Greek life at NYU, but it is definitely a very active scene and the people inside it seem to really like it. If you were a freshmen, I would say go ahead and rush, give it a chance, and if you don’t like it, you can always drop out, nbd.</p>
