Some messages indicate that if you are an athlete, there is a great social scene. If you are not an athlete and not interested in the Greek scene, will you find others who are similar?

The majority of Lafayette students are neither Greek nor athlethes. This doesn’t necessarily mean Greeks and athletes live lives seperate from everyone else. As to finding alternative social activities that might have only a few or no althletes and Greeks involved, yes that is certainly a possibility. Is is great? Depends, I suppose, on what you consider great. Although my daughter is a member of a sorority, she would not consider beer pong a great social activity and she is not a big one for going to the college-owned dance club (or off-campus clubs). But she has found more than enough to keep her interested and engaged through theater, musical performance, academic/special interest clubs and by attending lectures, concerts and movies. She also spent 5 or 6 weekends in NYC last year either on college-sponsored trips or daytrips with friends. Her friends include kids who are members of both varsity teams and club teams, but whose passions are their academic pursuits; sports offers an opportunity to keep in shape and work off stress.

If want to play a sport or join a fraternity Lafayette has what you want (at least for a while, as the number of frats is five and falling). If you don’t there are plenty of options.

I concur. My S is a junior, he pledged a frat 2nd semester soph year but was far from bored his first 3 semesters. He’s involved in a club sport and a couple of activities/clubs. He has also gone to Philly twice with friends to see concerts.

A good example - we were on campus watching the football game with S and his friend “Phil” on Parents Day weekend. Phil is an Engineer, in a frat and active in the college’s musical theater productions. S & Phil were discussing one of Lafayette’s football players, who Phil is friends with. I asked how Phil how he and the football player met, and Phil said, “Oh he was in the play with me last semester.” Another example, my S worked on a group project with one of the varsity basketball players. So the athletes and Greeks are not isolated from other students on campus at all.
