Grey Box has disappeared!

great to hear that, thank god you got the joke, haha, see you in UIUC?

Hey, my gray box has disappeared too! Can’t wait for another 22 hours!

My gray box is gone – no status field, but I still have my requested college and major.

This is killing me.

I think everyones box disappeared honestly.

@illinifan, will that be cash or credit?

jk jk, but seriously im a little freaked because my major hasnt changed and i was fully expecting it to…:0

cash lol that’s good your major hasn’t changed

The decisions are not mass loaded tomorrow. They hit the system as they hit it. The page you are viewing is dynamic. It is generated via program code, each time it is viewed. The code simply tests the current datetime against the publicized release time. If the current datetime < release time you get zilch, else you get the decision. Gray box, or not, that’s just the way it is. I know it’s tough, but you really just have to wait, and, sincerely, good luck to you all.

Balthezar that made no sense in my opinion…

with a 3.2 i should of been put in dgs right? in reality theres not a good chance im getting into chem engineeering

Why is that?

I think what Balthezar meant is that all the decisions have been made. We just have to wait until a certain time, and then all applicants can view the decision. Why this way? To promote fairness I bet, wouldn’t want any mistakes in which someone gets accepted and then finds that is not so, which has happened recently.

UofI. Wait. Your program hasn’t changed. Although 3.2 is lower than average, it is a full application review. You’ll know tomorrow afternoon. Either way, I can tell from your level of engagement in the discussion that your interest is high enough that you will do well in college.

Huh? Grey Box? Status? What it meant during priority period? I checked the UI site for info regarding “time” tomorrow (for D) and didn’t see anything - and so I checked here for some guidance - and now I’m thoroughly confused!?! So, simply/please, what time should we check tomorrow? Also, while reviewing the page of “Application Summary” - it looks pretty full - except nothing exists for “status.” I haven’t been following this stuff since her app was officially noted as “received.” Thanks.

mnevins2, every year people attempt to divine the tea leaves from this or that changing on the app status page, but the bottom line is you’ll know tomorrow (Tomorrow being clearly stated on the website as the regular (not priority) decision date). I have no idea why they don’t also state the time of day after which the decision will be available, but it’s always been 5pm cst. If you check after then, grey box, or not, you’ll be able to view your daughter’s admission decision.

@Balthezar. Thanks. I just wanted a simple answer to a simple question. I can, though, relate to the extra stuff taking place around this important information for so many people. Good luck to everyone!!!

everyone knows the decision comes out tomorrow. people are going to speculate certain things like the gray box since it meant something for priority decision…

I’ve been with the U of I in Information Technology for over 30 years, and I am heavily involved in web development now. Although I’m not privy to the program code used on the U of I admissions app status page, I know how dynamic page generation works. The decisions are in the system. Once they begin to load them, the code is written so that the decision is hidden. They do this because they would otherwise be deluged with calls from applicants asking for their decision because “my friend got his, and my app was complete before his”. They therefore conceal the decision on Banner (the database/application that the university uses) until a specific date and time of day.

From a networking perspective, the server load increases exponentially around the expected release date/time, so they most likely add server capacity as the release date nears. They only need the capacity during these windows, so minor things can change when adding server assets to the mix to handle the expected load. Even with the increased server capacity, expect response time to suffer around 5pm tomorrow.

Yes. That’s why I’m trying to provide reasonable explanations to quell the useless speculation.

I’m curious
Illinifan you said that the gray box meant something for priority. What exactly?

for priority if the box disappeared you were either accepted or rejected. it it was still there then you were deferred. this held true for everyone I talked to that applied priority.
