Grinnell Early Writes

So according to last years thread it came out around next week…? anyone know anything about that?

S19 got his RD acceptance last year in early Feb so they should be coming soon! You’ll get an email telling you that your portal has changed and then you can check your portal to see the acceptance and merit if they offer you any.

Hi, what’s an early write? Is it like a likely letter?

An early write is an early notification of admission…different than a likely letter which states something like ‘come admission decision notification time you are likely to hear good news’.

Does everyone have waitlist supplement in the drop down menu for upload documents?

i have it too, i think everyone does

did everyone receive a grinnell viewbook with the word “you”? it seems just to be a regular piece of a propaganda, it just seems very weird to send at this time in the college app season.

I heard someone got theirs today. Did any of y’all get one?

Yes, I applied for RD.

My son got an acceptance notification today. He’s very excited.

Today my son got an acceptance (RD) with $27K merit a year. Do you plan to go to the admitted day on March 1-2?

My daughter got an acceptance Friday as well — so excited! She’s not sure if she should go to the admitted day since we already visited, but I think it’s probably worth it to get a different view of the school.

Our S19 was admitted to Grinnell last Feb and went to the special admitted student days for this group of kids. I would highly recommend going if you can. I think Grinnell reimburses some travel as well since we were able to get $500 from them to help cover the costs and we have no financial need. That info should be in the invite to the event. S19 really enjoyed that visit - the biggest part was meeting Grinnell students and the other admitted kids. We had already visited but this visit was even more helpful.

Thanks so much, homerdog – I created a CC account (after lurking and learning so much – thanks, group!) just to find out more about the admitted student day. We went and loved it, but it was during a break – sounds like it’s really worth it to go to this. Thank you!

@coffeemom50 S19 really liked meeting the other admitted students. They all talked about why they applied to Grinnell and the other schools on their lists. It was really helpful to see if he “fit” with these kids and for them all to bounce ideas about college choices off of each other. Grinnell had a trivia night during the event and kids just got to hang out and get to know each other. Super helpful. Good luck!

Just got back from admitted days March 1-2. Not sure why they notified my son that he already got in since he applied RD. They only accept 425 first-years after all, right?

I posted on another thread, but reception for early writes (no clue such thing existed) was 1st class. My wife and I met the president of college during the reception. At some point he actually lived in the same city as we do and knew my kid’s high school. He said he graduated from a similar profile HS in Baltimore.

@NascarFedex would be very interested in anything you’d be willing to share about the admitted students days. My son was invited, but since we hadn’t heard back from many of his schools yet, it seemed too early to make such a big trip (we’re in CA) until we had more info. But we’re very interested in Grinnell and would love to hear what you saw, heard, and learned about the school. TIA!
