My D got Founders scholarship for 20K. She is very excited! Invited for March 4-5 visit event.
Daughter accepted with 20k a year and invite to visit. Yay!
Hey guys, me too! Iâm so excited I was getting ready for a rejection ahhhh!!
also @Shisuii your profile picture is wonderful
@loqician Haha thank you! Itâs from one of my fav. animes.
Congrats to you all! Anyone willing to say if they interviewed or not? Wondering how important it might be.
@Shisuii Yeah, I love HunterxHunter! That episode made me cry so much, but it makes me really happy to see other fans, especially on a college admissions website haha
@homerdog My D did interview.
@homerdog my daughter did not interview.
@homerdog Mine did not interview.
My D was accepted with 20K scholarship and invite in March. She is a bit disappointed, she was hoping for 25K scholarship. She is very conscious about the amount of loans sheâd have to take. She has been drifting away from Grinnell in recent weeks (Lawrence is her current favorite) so this disappointment for her might be enough to scratch off her list.
Congratulations to all who got accepted. Did you all apply RD?
@Cariar Yes mine did.
@megawillmae My D has gotten 2 EAs (including Lawrence) and 2 surprise early acceptances. Mine is very pleased with the 20K because she really likes Grinnell and it is much harder to get into than her other acceptances. But so far it is the most expensive even with the generous 20K award.
@veryapparent My D has offers from our flagship state university (financial safety) and also from University of Minnesota, St Olaf, Lawrence, Knox and Augustana College. We are still waiting on Macalester. She is a recruited athlete as well (at the small schools, not the two Universites).She was in love with Grinnell early on but less so after an overnight visit. I donât think she has ever loved it as much as her mom and dad. We are a bit disappointed but absolutely love Lawrence as well and move importantly our daughter seems to feel at home there both with the school, and team. Weâll see how it all turns out but if we were betting tonight, I think sheâll end up at Lawrence
D2 found out she was awarded the 20k merit award tonight as well (she applied RD). She had almost written off Grinnell when she didnât get into the fly-in program, but with no fee and no essay, it was a no-brainer to apply. We are over the moon.
$20k doesnât stretch very far as weâre not confident that sheâd qualify for much FA (divorce - ex-husbandâs non-CSS profile is a black box). Nevertheless, this surprise news was an incalculable gift to her self-confidence.
We have a few schools in common :). Mine has never had an aha moment at any school but Grinnell checks a lot of boxes. I truly have no idea where mine will end up. Time will tell I suppose. Best of luck!
My application was submitted on November 16 of last year and I havenât heard anything - when should I expect an email?
@apavey1 Their website says decisions come out late March so youâll hear back in late March.
So you all applied before 12/1 but RD so you could be considered for merit. Do you have anything else in common? URM, recruited athletes, NMSF? Maybe all of the kids who received these merit awards found out yesterday but kids who wonât receive any merit will find out about acceptances in March?
@homerdog Or maybe they are rolling out their announcements in waves and this has no reflection on the chances of applicants who havenât heard yet. Not one person here has any real insight into the actual admissions process. All speculation, posturing and humble bragging at this point.
If you read through posts from last year Grinnell awarded merit to kids who get accepted off the wait list. So donât think it has anything to do with merit. Maybe geographic diversity? I donât think Grinnell gets a lot of applications from our state.
