@Zxcvbnm111 Son’s friend was awarded $50K scholarship a few days ago.
My D got an email saying that they have an opening for her to do overnight stay! She was on waitlist.
@sanjosedad :D/ Awesome! Glad she will make it. We still haven’t heard back on travel itinerary. I’m expecting to hear anytime now.
Very excited to receive the acceptance and scholarship but two hours later was accepted ED2 to first choice. Really appreciate Grinnell for the offer but have to decline.
@Deaston - congrats and where are you headed!
Mine got an overnight slot too!! Surprised because so fa down on wait list!
@AlmostThere2018 Pomona.
@Deaston - congrats!! SoCal so fun!
Did anybody else set up a financial aid appointment? I’m trying to figure out what documents are necessary to bring :-/
My D got acceptance email from Wellesley yesterday(early evaluation), but have to wait 'till March to get the full financial package deal. Heard Wellesley isn’t as generous as Grinnell in offering good financial package. Grinnell is still her first choice due the Dean’s scholarship from the school and we be attending the admitted day in Mar. I can’t justice to pay full-price for a four-year college education, rather save for post-graduate study for her(law/medicine/Masters/P.hd.).
Congrats San Jose dad =D> I’m with you on sticker price. Especially with another close behind on D18’s heels.
Flight and shuttle email arrived this morning for the overnight at Grinnell. This is about to get REAL :((
@Meddy, Great to hear! now you can relax.
My daughter also got an email a few days ago saying she got an overnight slot. I’m so happy about that. I think it is a super important part of a visit. I can’t wait to hear how she likes Grinnell.
Hi. Does anyone know if it’s a bad sign that we haven’t heard anything yet? My son applied regular decision prior to December 1st. He had an interview and he’s a pretty strong applicant. I’m just a bit concerned that so many have received answers already and we’ve heard nothing (we did get the “Why Grinnell” email but nothing else). Any thoughts? Thanks!
@mrjsmom - Same boat for my daughter. She did a Skype interview with a student (it was all they offered) and did the optional essay (tho submitted on the last day). She has very high stats, rigor, leadership, awards, sports, yada, yada. But no word either. We did not visit, but I imagine lots of folks don’t make it to Iowa, right? Good luck to your son!!
@mrjsmom Not at all. Grinnell Regular admission notification date is late March. Most applicants will receive decisions at that time. Grinnell is one of the few schools that offers what is called “Early Writes”. These are similar to “Likely Letters”, both of which you can find more info on CC. Basically, some schools send these early offers of admission out to a handful of applicants. Best of luck to your son!

@mrjsmom Nothing to worry about at all. My eldest went through this as well and did not get an early write. He still got in and got offered decent scholarship money. The “early write” is for people that they have identified for whatever reason as people that they want to entice there. I can tell you for sure that it is not just academic but other factors are involved. Don’t ask me what, because I’m not sure, but it is not an indication that your S won’t get in.
@Anxiousdad53 – thanks, that’s helpful!
