^Hey, I'm planning to be a CM major too! Maybe I'll see you next year. Though it probably won't be a good idea for you if you don't like programming - that's half the curriculum..

Hey, I'm planning on doing either aero or mech engineering. I just got finished with Linear Alg and will get credit for my Calc 3 and Diff Eq classes. I probably got a B in Linear Alg, so what would you recommend that I take my first semester in terms of math. It will be very difficult undoubtedly, but I'm going to spend a lot of time in the summer reviewing and relearning everything.

acatinahat,
if you're referring to whether you should take Calc I or II (seeing as you have , if you think that extra studying will help to enhance your understanding on linear algebra (i.e. if you got a strong B), then I see no problem in taking Calc II (ppl take it, even when they don't have as much experience as you, and they fare OK)

Once you email them that you wish to change your intended major, it's changed...you start school with what you emailed them...so choose wisely.

But you can change once you get in as long as you meet the pre-reqs right?

I'm currently torn between Stac:media option and Management:entrepreneurship :P

As I'm planning to skip Calc I, Phy 1 and 2 and Chem with credits, should I review these subjects before coming? How sould I review? Are there notes and quizzes I can find in gatech's website for these subjects? Should I also learn the basics of some subjects that I have never touched like computer science? And does anyone know what are the subjects that we can knock out by placement tests taken there? Can we knock subjects like economics?
thanks in advance

On OSCAR, it says that certain "Intro" classes are full or almost full [CS1315 in particular]. Does this mean that it is actually full or are some of those spaces "filled" by incoming freshmen that haven't registered yet? [AKA pre-registered / reserved for those students]

I'm wondering the same thing, maea.

Is it possible for fall 2008 freshmen to register classes online right now? Or is it only available for summer students?

I tried to register for a class (not necessarily to actually register, but to see if I could), and it wouldn't let me. My guess is that they don't open up your account for registration until your FASET..

You'll get a time ticket at FASET for a particular time to register - you won't be able to get into the registration area before then. Don't worry about "FULL" classes - they do pre-register freshman in many courses, but if you aren't pre-registered in one you need, you will likely be able to get in as others drop and add courses. You may not go home from FASET with a perfect schedule - Phase II enrollment (about the time classes start) is widely used to modify and perfect schedules.

Hi, gt08.

Over the summer, I want to learn computer programming before I actually attend GaTech this fall. At this moment, my major is undeclared engineering but I am very interested in EE, CE, and IE. Although there are less programming done in IE, I want to learn one of the following: Java, C, C++. Which programming will I benefit the most in GaTech if I learn over the summer?

I've also realized that Matlab is common first computer course that most students take but I think I can fairly manage Matlab in the fall semester. I am more worried about the difficulty of other computer programming such as Java, C, and C++. Thank you!

This is my personal opinion, which doesn't say much since I've only taken one CS class.
I think that you should take Java since it is emphasized in most early CS classes. CS friends I've spoken to tell me that Java is a good precursor for any language and thus it is good to learn initially.
I personally found MATLAB a whole lot easier after I learnt Java.

hey gt08, sorry to trouble you again lol but can you reply to my previous post...thanks

Hey! So I'm coming to tech in the fall and I'm so excited. My roommate and I are trying to decide what to do with are rooms. Do most people loft their beds? Or...something else. Thanks!

I don't think you're allowed to loft beds.

I know that Calc 2 is completely different from calc 1.
You'll probably only need to remember only the basics of calc 1 (integration and differentiation) since the first half is just series and some differentials and the second half is linear algebra (nothing to do with calc at all).
For Physics, depending on what you take you may need a brief review of basic mechanics?
I haven't had any experience with anything higher than gen chem, so I can't help you there.

Assuming you're taking CS 1371 (Computing for Engineers), you can find some basic information on MATLAB online or in the engineering section of a bookstore.

I have only heard of the Calc 1 placement test and the language tests online. I don't think you can place out of economics without the AP credit.

I know they say you can't loft beds, but look at this webpage.
Policies and Procedures: Georgia Tech Housing

Thanks specify...this takes me to the next question
According to the laptop requirements sent by OIT, softwares like Dreamweaver CS 3, Matlab 7.5 and Maple 11 are standard softwares required for classes and stuffs...How do most students in Tech get these softwares? through the book store? is there any discount available...and is the adobe (full package) with a macbook pro a good deal with 200 dollars off for the software...do mac users know about this deal...but i am fearing that software has more than dreamweaver CS 3...

You take Java as an IE major and C as a EE/CE major from what I know...

Matlab is the required course for all Engineering Freshman though you are
able to test out of it. I think you can test out of C as well for that matter.

Hey, I'll be attending a community college in Georgia before transferring out to a bigger university like Georgia Tech or University of Georgia. I have a few question to ask you.

Is it smart to major in business at Georgia Tech?
How is the social life with girls? Are they attractive?
How is the dorm life?
