GT Student- AMA

I found College Confidential really helpful when I was applying to colleges. Now that I'm at Tech, I'd love to answer any questions you guys applying might have! Ask me about course load, dorms, Greek life, etc.
Note, I'm not an engineering student, but the majority of my friends are so I know plenty about the programs haha and can probably still answer.

1)Girls!?
2)Average Engineering GPA? How hard to get 4.0?
3)Food?
4)Dorms!?
5)Are single rooms available for Freshmen? How much more $$$?
6)Is the faculty helpful and friendly?Do they give fcuks(strictly metaphorically speaking)?
7)Safety?
8)Free time for engineering students?
9)Difficulty of engineering examinations?
10)Is it true that professors get together to make the worst exam schedule?

^

I’m not the OP but I am a freshman MSE student…

1) the ratio is posted online, so yes it is true that there are fewer girls than guys. BUT that really never seems that apparent. I joined a fraternity an that really helped too. In the Greek community the ratio is about 50-50. I would definitely recommend at least rushing the different fraternities. Greek life is definitely important because it allows you to have a more “real” college experience and it puts you with more normal people that are fun to hand out with.
2) yeah getting that 4.0 is definitely gonna be a challenge. Tech is hard. Simply put. You do need to realize that a 3.2 at tech is much more meaningful to companies to your friends’ 3.6-7’s at other schools. Is it impossible? No, I know a couple people with 4.0’s but I wouldn’t go in there thinking you’re gonna get all A’s like you’re used to getting in high school.
3) it’s dining hall good. Serves it’s purpose but isn’t anything special. There are lots of cool restaurants around though!
4)they’re maybe slightly on the smaller side but they also serve their purpose. If you’re doing college right you shouldn’t be shut off in your room anyways…
5) no single rooms that I know if.
6) the faculty is VERY helpful and is there for you to succeed. Tech is a hard school so people sometimes feel like they’re being screwed by the faculty when that’s far from the truth. They are there to help you, and, believe it or not, they really want you to come for help! There are lots of opportunities for students to get the help they need.
7) GRPD is awesome and the campus is very safe. Nuff said.
8) it’s all about time management. That’s really all I can say. You will get a lot if work but if you don’t procrastinate and knock it out you’ll get free time. Yes, there will be times where you’ll be bogged down with your studies but that’s just college.
9) Repeating myself again…Tech is not an easy school. However, you can definitely do well on tests. They’re difficult and test you to make sure you understand ALL of the material taught. If you study hard you’ll do fine. I failed my first test in chem and calc 2 but have gotten A’s and B’s on the rest. You’ll learn how to study right and what to expect,
10) no. It just happens thy a lot of times exams occur on the same week. Most classes space their exams out in a pretty similar fashion, so they can come around the same time.

What’s the LGBT like at Tech? I’m really interested in Tech and strong LGBT resources is huge for me.
