Hmm, well, if it's mid-August I guess it wouldn't help much at first. lol

I thought it was as well. You mentioned that people said Whitney was easy, but her average GPA: 2.94 the second lowest teaching 1101 this Fall. Very confusing!

To clarify, I said her grading was on the easy side. For example, one of her assignments for 1102 was an opinion essay. My friend asked me to read his final draft for that assignment. There wasn’t a single opinion in his entire essay! It was two pages of facts. His grade on the essay? An A. If you ask for an essay about X, get an essay about Y, and still give an A for an essay that doesn’t answer the prompt, I’d definitely call that easy grading.

I have been assigned the Towers Dorm but i recently discovered that it has community restrooms. So I am considering swapping for somewhere on the west campus that has private restrooms. Are the community restrooms uncomfortable to use or are they manageable? Should I consider swapping?

How hard is Math 1501? I took Calculus this past year in high school, but I hear a lot of people do really poorly in it, so I've been reviewing some stuff like limits.

What is the cost of doing laundry on campus? How much for washing and drying?
Also, are the dorms locked so that only people who live in that particular dorm can get in? If so, are the buzzcards used for that?
Thanks!

All freshman experience dorms are traditional dorms; that is, they all have community restrooms. Suites have one private restroom and apartments have two.

There’s nothing wrong with community restrooms in my opinion. First, you don’t have to clean them. (You have to clean your own bathroom if you live in a suite or apartment.) Second, unless diarrhea hits four people at the same time, you don’t have to wait for someone else to finish; you can just go. Third, the community restroom can actually help you get to know your hallmates better. Four of us in my hall broke the ice during the first week of school by shaving at the same time.

So, I wouldn’t recommend swapping solely on the basis of the community restroom.

Washing is $1.25 per load, and drying is $0.25 for 10 minutes. I usually wash one load every other week, so laundry for me is a biweekly cost of $2.25 (1.25 + 40 minutes of drying).

The laundry areas are locked, yes. You use your key to get in and your buzzcard to pay.

Are the actual entrances into the residence halls locked for only the people who live in them? Also, do you have any idea how the dorming "shop and swap" program works?

Generally, your key only opens your residence hall and your corresponding laundry area if there is no laundry area within your dorm. For example, residents of Folk, Caldwell, and Armstrong do not have a laundry area within their dorms, so they have to go the WCHO building. However, it is possible that your key will open some doors of adjacent dorms. Continuing with Folk and Caldwell as an example, a resident of Folk can open the basement doors of Caldwell and vice versa. He just can’t open the main door.

Sorry, I’m totally unfamiliar with the shop and swap program. I didn’t even know it existed!

Great. Thanks so much. A couple questions about scheduling.
I just checked OSCAR and they had me signed up for GT 1000 MGT, English 1101 with Grandt, and Math 1712 with Evans. This is only 8 credits. At FASET, they are going to allow me to add another class, right? Also, I have taken Calculus I in high school are they going to allow me to take Calculus I? Or am I going to have to take Survey of Calc then Calc I? :/

Since 8 credits is 4 credits below full-time status, you're definitely going to have to add at least one other class, possibly two.

If you take Survey of Calculus, then you don't need to take Cal I and vice versa. For Management majors, the math sequence is either Survey + Finite or Cal I + Cal II.

Did you take Cal I through joint enrollment?

No. I did not take Calc I through joint enrollment. Not only am I a Management major, but I'm also doing the premed track. For premed, I NEED Calc 1. I just looked through all of the available openings and I only found 25 openings. I'm afraid I'm going to get there and there aren't any more. Will I have to wait until Spring semester or is there a way to get around the max? Thanks

You can request an override for Cal I at FASET. (An override is used to enter a class that is full.)

If you know you want to complete the pre-med track, then you definitely don't want to take Survey of Calculus. It would be a waste of time as you would still have to take Cal I regardless.

I understand that pre-med can be completed with any major. However, knowing that you wanted to be a pre-med, what influenced you to choose Management?

girl_ski,

On the basis of your SAT scores alone, you're in. One of my friends is an out-of-state male whose SAT scores were slightly higher than yours but whose GPA was much lower than yours. So, you don't have to worry much at all, just complete the application!

What are my chances?

If you can pull up your SAT [esp. the math part, since GT is pretty math-y, you know], that would help a TON.

I really have no idea how to quote. Sorry. :/

I went ahead and put in an override request for CalcI, just in case. I put that it was recommended for Pre-med.

Well, to be honest, I have no idea what I want to major in, although I'm pretty positive I don't want to major in Chem, Bio, or Engineering. I was originally an undecided Ivan Allen major, but decided it would be easier to switch into Ivan Allen than switch into Management. So we will see! :]

I have another question about Chem 1310. I was looking through the Class Schedule Listing and ALL but one section(?) is restricted to certain majors(of course none of them including management). The one class that isn't restricted says this "First class is Monday, August 18 at 205pm in CoC, rm 16. Lecture, lab & recitation by permit only; On-going course, no new registrants allowed". Do you have any idea what that means? Thanks.

No chem or bio yet you wanna do pre-med? Thats a lot of extra classes and chem/bio intensive track.

Yes, I am aware.
