I'm transferring to GA Tech for the Spring '12 term. I'm coming from a relatively small liberal arts university. I'm majoring in Chemistry and I would like to read some advices/opinions for a Junior (I will end up being a Sophomore because of transfer equivalencies), Chemistry major. I used to be Pre-Pharmacy so I took many classes that are now not needed for my Chemistry degree. The classes I need to take as soon as possible are Linear Algebra, Quantitative Analysis, Physics II and Computer Science. (It's sort of odd because I'm now taking Calculus III, Inorganic Chemistry and Advanced Organic Chemistry). How many credit hours should I take in my first semester at Tech. What is more appreciated in Ga Tech, understanding the material or working hard? I sometimes like to get too much into my homework and end up spending more hours on homework than if I started to do it without wanting to understand "everything" (of course it pays off with A's and good understanding of material but Idk how much of that you can afford in a large university taking several hard classes at a time) I'm sure you guys know what I mean. Thank you so much.

I’m transferring too and I plan to take 12 credits my first semester just to ease into it and get a good feel about how to manage my time and what it takes to succeed. I think even if the classes aren’t much more challenging than at your school, you could benefit from having time to adjust. I imagine that at first you will have to work really hard while trying to gauge your professors’ expectations and what it takes to get the grade.
