Guaranteed dorm for scholarship recipients?

I saw on USC's housing guide that came with the acceptance that Birnkrant is for all Trustee and Presidential scholarship recipients. I haven't submitted my housing deposit yet (still deciding on a school) and I was wondering if this dorm is guaranteed for the scholarship recipients or if I need to hurry and submit my housing deposit to secure a place. Can anyone provide any insight into this? Thanks!

If you want to have first dibs on ANY one particular building, then you should send in your housing app asap. If you then decide to go to college elsewhere you will lose your housing deposit, but I doubt that the Housing office will hold back ALL the rooms in Birk. until the decision deadline of May 1. I believe the laudable intent of having scholarships winners room together in one building is to provide an environment where studying is encouraged and partying from Fri- Sun is not the only socially acceptable freshman dorm activity. I wish they had this “residential college for scholarship winners” when my son first started at USC, but he was happy in Pardee on the “outdoor interests” floor.

Hi! I believe there were some dorm where more scholarship students were encouraged to dorm (Trojan and Troy, when S was there, I think). My S also stayed in Pardee, the Great Outdoors floor as well & enjoyed it (tho was not happy they all had to contribute to the damage fee due to damage on their floor at the end of the year. S did not complain about having difficulty studying.

H did not request Pardee (his 1st choice) until around mid-April, since he hadn’t decided for sure he’d attend USC and also wasn’t sure where he wanted to dorm among the options until then. He & most of his friends got their 1st (or 2nd) choice.

To get your 1st choice among the more popular dorms, yes, you should pay your deposit & register as soon as you can. It’s up to you & your family if you want to pay the non-refundable housing deposit before you’re SURE you’ll be attending USC or not.

You a scholarship kid? Choose Birnkrant.

^Why do you say that, MagicalMalik?

^ because he’s living there right now hahaha

Birnkrant is definitely the best - I’ve stayed over at many other dorms and the experience just isnt the same. Small, close knit coed floors and there tends to be a lot of scholarship kids so intelligent people.

The fact that triples are gigantic dont hurt either hahaha
