Guaranteed Housing???

First, i just want to make sure potential first-year students like me get guaranteed campus housing. So does that mean even if I submit the housing application after May 1 deadline I can still get a room on north campus? [from paper brochure: "First-year student housing app deadline--housing applications from first-year students must be postmarked or submitted online by May 1, 2005"]???

However, i'm not 100% certain i'll end up at Cornell with me being waitlisted at four top schools (Duke, Hopkins, WashU, Dartmouth) and full-ride at U of arizona. My final decision will likely be decided partially by Finaid office. I already sent the $400 and acceptance coupons. I'm willing to forfeit 400 in the even i go to one of the other 5 schools.

BUT the PROBLEM is as stated on the applyweb.com cornell bound page: "A non-refundable housing application fee of $50 will be billed to your university bursar account, along with your HOUSING CHARGES [emphasis added]."

Wait! does that mean if I send in my housing app. i'll have to pay $50 fee? that's nothing, compared to the $6080 price of the 2005-6 year's HOUSING CHARGEs to my bursar account at cornell. If i go to another school, don't tell me I'll have to end up with still paying a half-empty room's [[$6080]] housing fees for the entire years! I'll still have to settle the cornell account, paying of the bill of the $50 app fee , AND a year's worth of HOUSING CHARGES [emphasis]? !!? I sure dont wanna owe that much.

come on , 9 ppl viewed this, and nothing? too bad it's weekend or i'd have asked housing office

i doubt theyll charge you if you don't enroll at cornell

hope that's true, since i'm propect. frosh, i'll have campus housing no matter what. i'll ask housing ppl on mon. they sure have quite a few contradictory statements there.

You won't be billed for housing if you're not obtaining the service, i.e. you go to another school. They can't make you pay for something you won't use.

I believe they are trying to make the point that ontop of the housing you will have to pay for when you go to cornell, there is a $50 housing app fee, not that they'll charge you for housing if you apply for it and then don't attend.

Just a thought: wow...$50x3000 froshies, thats $150,000 in housing applications.
