Guaranteed transfer -- does anyone else have this opportunity?

Hi  I’m Lauren. I prepared myself emotionally to be accepted to BU or rejected. But I never anticipated this! I am wondering if there is anyone else who was offered the guaranteed transfer and how many people overall are offered this.

I am definitely going to be taking advantage of this opportunity, BU is my favorite school by far and I can’t pass it down.

I understand that this option may having to to do with the university wanting to compensate for drop-outs, or wanted to see that I am capable of succeeding in college… what are you all thinking?

I was offered the same guaranteed transfer too! At first I was pretty happy because it wasn’t a complete rejection, but I’m not sure how I feel about transferring after a year somewhere else. Does anyone think that this is worth it? Thanks!

If you really like the school you go to freshman year there is no need to transfer. You are not obligated to attend BU in the future.

I was accepted to other, good 4-year universities, but I’m planning on commuting to a small, local state school now to save money… @TomSrOfBoston. I just don’t want to end up not having credits transfer and falling behind. I love BU and can’t imagine going anywhere else.

@nplabutong I really want to do it! I think it is worth it. I’m going to try and save money my first year

Its a good idea but there is no harm to contact BU advising and tell them your situation. They can review the course descriptions of the courses you will be taking and the rigor of the program to ensure ALL the credits transfer. They can recommend which courses for your inteded major they will want to see done at BU.

good luck, excellent idea with such and expensive school ( Also look into how AID will be delivered, usually they use up aid on freshmen so I would not want you to save $$ up front only to be disappointed

My DS got this offer as well. He accepted it. I see it as a safety net of sorts if the school he goes to he finds he doesn’t like it he can transfer without the uncertainty of a regular transfer. I also think it has better ‘odds’ than a waitlist since that is a gamble and the numbers taken off the waitlist are not great. If he likes where he is he loses nothing and if he doesn’t he has a great option and a guarantee of admission to the school he preferred to begin with.

I got it! I’m using it as a safety net when I apply to other schools to transfer.
