Hey i was wondering if your second semester senior yr grades will affect ur chances as a gt.... My grades have dropped considerably, most probably 3 A's, 2 C's and a D. I had really bad extenuating circumstances this yr (dad is having organ transplant....maintaing 2 jobs to support family, etc) and Im so ****ing worried that I wont get into cornell now with the GT. If I can get 3.7+ in college, and write a paragraph describing my 2nd sem grades, will I still get in?

im pretty sure the letter jus asks you to maintain a certain gpa with certain required courses. it said nothing about 2nd semester grades, and although they might look at them, i think the "guarantee" is a significant word- they set gpa and course requirements- meet them and you'll get in. at least thats what the letter implies. :-/

yea thats what I thoguht too. I do know that they request the final high school transcript but do they weight that transcript as heavily ast he college one?

i dont think so. you're a GT based on your merits and what they know you're capable of, and they are fully aware of the sudden lack of motivation that comes with many students' last high school semester. you keep a 3.0 or 3.3 or whatever is required at your freshman college and maintain the course requisites you WILL get in.

they will ask for your high school transcript though. You'll have to talk to somebody dirrectly on whether or not the big drop will hurt you.

ok here is the deal. If you do not meet a requirement in college and they do look at ur transfer transcript it could hurt you (If you don't meet GT requirements you become a normal transfer). If anything does happen just explain what you just told. GT is NOT binding, so if something really crazy happens either party can just say no, but it most likely won't happen. GL!

well I called an admissions person at cornell and she said that they strongly weigh college transcripts more than the high school transcript. However, since I have a legitimate reason, i don't kknow if its coming off as a sorry excuse, which im def not trying to do.

when do we have to send in our final high school transcripts? This year or next year, when we're at a different college?

doesnt the gt sheet specifically say that only the college transcript comes into play?

it wont only be the college transcript. Finishing off the high school year is very important.

how do you get a guaranteed transfer? is it if your rejected when your in high school?

well as long as my circumstances are explained, do you think Ill be okay? Ill try my best to pull that D up to a C

Cornell will take away an admissions offer to a student who does not perform well at the end of high school, i dont know why it'd be any different for a GT.

idk, I just thought that they weighed the college transcript more heavily than the high school one and as long as you didnt fail, etc...

u should call the admissions office and make sure. of course u shouldnt be failing any class. All colleges dont favor failing classes. Just try and bring ur avg up if thats still possible. Good luck.

BTW, when do we send in our HS transcripts? Should we be asking our school to send it now?

they will weigh the college transcript more. But, 2 C's and a D will stick out like a sore thumb.

hopefully if I can bring the grade to 3 C's, will that somewhat not stick out if I can achieve a 3.7+ in college?

hello...i wrote an email to hotel school's associate director of admissions about my grades (i have a D in calculus) and this is her reply.

"Your preferred transfer option is not contingent on your final high school grades or on college grades earned while still attending high school. The preferred transfer will be contingent on you earning at least a 3.0 with no grade below "C" in the fall term at a four year college or university."

3.0's the gpa requirement for hotel school.
hopefully that helps. good luck!

Thank ****ing God

contact admission if you're not in the hotel school though. Each school does admissions differently and independent of each other.
