"Guess This Shotgunner's Admissions!" Game

Hey guys, I remember someone else doing once of these things where you guess the person’s admissions decisions, and since it’s March, and decisions are coming out very soon, I thought “Why not?” You just have to guess where I get into, but what makes this one slightly more interesting than the other ones is that I’m a shotgunner–I applied to 31 schools with taking only 1 or 2 days for each of the applications, for the most part! I remember a huge post on this that was rampant with discussion, so here goes. These are things about me:

I am a currently a senior, and am Indian, speak Tamil and English fluently, and my parents are 1st generation immigrants (who went to college). (Now we are citizens.) I am from a higher end middle class family ~150K income, and currently reside in California.

In senior year: Statistics, Physics 1, US Government (1st semester), Macroeconomics (2nd semester), Calculus BC, Literature & Composition, Senior-project class (making a website to teach java as a senior class, so it replaced my peer tutoring class) <–Basically an additional EC I updated colleges with.

My GPA is current for all of high school, except 2nd semester senior year.

UPDATE to ECs: About a third or so of the colleges on my CommonApp added a new project that I am working on–an android application for the real-estate agent I worked for in 11th grade. I sent it to colleges ~March 5th, so I doubt most of them will factor it in their decisions, but hopefully… Oh well.

My personal statement is about how a certain type of yoga has helped develop me both physically and mentally, and how I used my knowledge to teach people at the senior center I volunteer, and about how the meditation I do with that yoga has helped me in school.

Where I applied (terribly long since I shotgunned haha, bear with me):

Good luck!

Thanks, I’ll update it at the very end with results, and oh, I forgot. My math 2 is 760, not 740!

Just curious, did you spend all your time senior year filling out apps instead of being involved? I only see 7 hrs a week of ECs during your senior year (I am throwing out yoga and playing with the Rubik’s cube). I am far from an expert, but that would concern me if I was considering you for admission to a highly selective school.

Based on your stats, I would think most the state schools except the most selective. They rest I think would be a reach based your lack of ECs or demonstrated passion for anything. But admissions are very random or holistic depending on your point of view, so you never know. Best of luck to you.

@ryan33 I updated the colleges in early Feb about a website I’m working on in which therell be videos made to teach java. Its been taking up a lot of my time, as well as the android application I recently started. However only a few colleges acknowledged the android application thing, so there’s that. Keeping in mind that I’m a comp sci major, I feel that these fit in well. Also, the Rubik’s cube club and yoga are sorta legitimate, but yeah, they don’t have anything to do with my major.

I personally think the kundalini yoga (and teaching) is a strong EC.

How did you afford all those applications…

@redpoodles Thank you! @0br0123 The applications did take an enormous amount of money, but I feel like it is well spent. I would have spent my entire life thinking about why I didn’t try for some of these colleges, had I not; it offers me mental peace that I tried, so the trade-off between the money and my happiness made it worth it haha.

Guess this acts as a bump, too------Bump!

Id say your chances arent gone but theyre not great. Weak subject tests, low AP scores, lacking ECs, and somewhat strange course schedule… most science majors would have more science.

I feel like that essay could also be a weakness but who knows…

Ill list the ones I think youll get into.

-All UCs EXCEPT Merced
-Cal Poly SLO
-Colorado Boulder
-University of Minnesota–Twin Cities
-Boston College
-Cornell University
-Georgia Institute of Technology
-University of Southern California

There is a good chance you’ll get into one of the others but those you have an above average shot at.

P.S. Spending around $2,500 on applications? Dang.

I think you will get into 4+ UCs and 2-3+ of the rest.

Automatically took off almost all schools of the highest tier (not because you’re unqualified for them, but because everyone else applying is, so you can never really know). Left a few really good schools on the list because it’s no fun just predicting matches and safeties.

Good luck! I think you have a good shot at the other colleges and can probably expect an acceptance from one or more of them, although from which one(s) I’m not sure.

Thanks guys! I’m just going to shamelessly bump this again! Bump!

I don’t think mine is going to be very accurate, but let’s hope there is more yes’s than I said!

I’ll tell you what I think about the colleges whose standards I know, I don’t want to give out false hope!

Cornell, USC, Washington University St Louis, UPenn, Northwestern, Colorado Boulder (absolutely), Boston College are all matches for you I think! Harvard, Yale and Stanford are no’s for me:( good luck!

Thanks again guys, results are coming out very soon! Hoping for more people to guess and let’s see the end result!

Are you the same as @Baloney1011? Or will he update us too?

I am disgusted…but intrigued.

Your real problem won’t be getting in, but picking the right school out of the places you do get in. Good luck!

Good luck!!!
