zOMG! I want my email already! :)

Don't get your hopes up man. Ruckus has a deal so u can download unlimited amounts of music if you go to one of these universities, however, the songs expire in a few months AND they are encoded so you cannot burn them to an ipod or a CD. Keep using limewire :)

Ruckus is terrible. You have to use their bundled software, and I could simply not figure out how to download music. The selection is very limited, and like Goph said, if you can't sync it with an iPod, what's the point?

I like Ruckus, but I listen to music on my computer a lot, so that made it very useful. Also, if you have an mp3 player other than an ipod you can get it on that. I like there selection, but they don't have much recent stuff.

there is a way i use ruckus music to...ahemcough...transfer to my ipod...

Ruckus isn't that great. The music selection is decent, but the software is a bit annoying, as it is a subscription service. Plus you have to pay them extra for movies (for which their selection is very small and limited) as well as extra to enable your music to be transferred to a non-iPod mp3 player.

Besides, I have an iPod, so iTunes cuts the cake for me. Actually, 9/10 people here have iPods, and most don't use Ruckus.

You also can't use Ruckus with a Mac, I e-mailed them about it. They said they couldn't write a program. I'll stick to iTunes, thank you very much.

Does USC have, like, discounts on iPods? I really want one!

they sell the ipods at the apple student discount rate ... but its only about 2 or 3 dollars cheaper than amazon (when you factor in sales tax) ... however, everyone and their mother still has an ipod, so get one

Precisely why I DON'T have one. Plus, they don't have an FM radio, which I like to listen to sometimes.

I got cowon x5L, which pretty much has everything... It plays videos, radios, mp3s, ogg, flac files, wma, wav, etc etc.. also pictures and text supports as well (and lyric support) Oh and not to mention 35 hours of battery (L version) so BOO YAH IPOD USERS! HA (coughs) Nah, i just didn't want an ipod because i wanted the video feature (before ipod video came out anyhow) and ipods go out WAY too fast. I mean ipod mini has already been replaced with ipod nano and its been only out for however many years? frightening.

With that one other person being people like beammeup. Would you like to share how you do that? (Transfering Ruckus files -> iPod or burning them onto CDs)
I have an iPod, and right now it seems like I'll be sticking w/ Limewire...

It probably isn't appropriate to discuss here, but it is ahempossiblecough.

The reason it doesn't work on mac/ipod by default is because everything is in WMA(Windows media audio) format...

Well if they are using WMA format all yu have to do is to make it into a MP3.. which isn't hard to do.. you can find plenty of programs that'll do that for free... like i said, i don't have to worry about that with mine though (ahaha) Well one major reason i bought mine was because it played Oggs (half the files on my comp is ogg)

I can burn WMAs w/o a problem, but are they really "encoded so you cannot burn them to an ipod or a CD" like Goph_Hockey said?

They have "DRM" or "digital rights management" embedded in them so it is not as trivial as if it were plain WMA. The DRM does not allow you to play it in anything except ruckus and windows media player.

^ well if you have spare time, you can always use the recording device in your own computer to record the song from the computer itself. Though, you must remember not to make any noise.. I have done this several times myself... (and after that i found out how to download (uh.. not legally) from that particular site so i didn't have to do that again.. cough
