Guest Policy

Hey all, I'm wondering what the guest policy at MIT is at residential dorms. Specifically, non-mit student of an opposite gender who will be staying at our double for three nights. Is there an opposite gender problem I should be worried about?

Are you worried that there is a policy prohibiting it, or worried that there isn’t a policy?

You can have overnight guests up to 3 nights in a given week, so you should be fine.

I don’t know about the all-girls dorm (McCormick), but there is no policy like this to my knowledge in the other dorms.

According to this - [Residential Housing and Dining Policies 2013-2014 | MIT Housing](<a href=“Housing & Residential Services | Division of Student Life”>Housing & Residential Services | Division of Student Life) - it exists. I don’t think anyone enforces it unless maybe it becomes a problem with roommates and neighbors, and I’d never heard of it either until now.

You could check with your particular dorm, but if I were you I wouldn’t check. There is something resembling a rule, but I don’t think any of the dorms take it seriously. I have visited other dorms for longer. I have had friends visit my dorm for longer. No one has noticed or had any issues with it. If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it…
