I got accepted EA to Michigan and I was wondering where else I could get in comparatively if I got accepted to Michigan. I know last year had high average SATs but also a pretty high acceptance rate- 40%. I live out of state so I was wondering what their OOS acceptance rate might be- 30%? 35%?

EA?

super low…

What’s that in a number lol

Last year’s acceptance rate overall was around 37%. This year it’s expected to be a few points lower at least due to a higher volume of applicants and a possible shrinking of the class size. So it’ll be around 32-34%. The OOS acceptance rate should be around 20-23%, if I had to venture a guess. That’s overall, not sure how different it may be for EA applicants specifically.

Last year the OOS acceptance rate overall was about 20%. Search these forums from last year and you can find the precise numbers, but it was about 20% for out of staters. My son was happy to be one of them - especially after being deferred EA. He loves U of M!

that’s awesome- I kind of shook off the honor of being accepted to Michigan because of the high acceptance rate listed everywhere. Now that I know the rate is around 20-30% I’m confident that I can get accepted to other schools that are the same level (Virginia, Tufts, Boston College, etc.)

^Lol Michigan’s probably better than all of those schools listed.

what do you mean by probably lol? As far as business Michigan is a top school, but I’m worried that the financial aid won’t be enough to cover costs and those schools claim to meet 100% need.

Virginia and BC Business is pretty solid as well.

I mean there’s no clear cut way to determine whether one school is better than another but personally I wouldn’t go to any of those schools over Michigan. Financial situations are a different story but Ross is fantastic and I know it’ll serve me very well as I look for a job.

If I had to guess I would say it was in the range of 20-29%. At my prep school I think about 16 kids applied and 6 got in, including 1 recruited athlete. All most all of us applying were qualified with 3.7+ gpas and 2100+ test scores. Some of the acceptances seemed random with one of my friends with a 4.0 and 35 act getting deferred while others with less impressive stats yet still impressive credintials were accepted.

Michigan’s overall acceptance rate this year should be in the 31%-33% range. I am not sure about the EA/RD breakdown, but I would assume the EA would be slightly higher (probably 37% for EA and 27% for RD).

This is probably the last year that Michigan will admit over 30% of applicants. Next year should drop to ~27-29%.

where did you figure that out from? what about oos?

I would also guess it will be north of 30% to yield the desired freshman class size. You forget that UofM is a pretty targeted institution. Most out of state public universities that don’t meet need generally receive a higher number of applications from kids that “know” that they are applying to a place that will cost $$ and Michigan knows it’s yield pretty well so they have to accept enough to yield those that will actually attend. For the vast majority of in-state kids it is the number one choice and yield there is also probably pretty predictive. Remember acceptances and yield are two different things. You have to accept enough to yield the desired results. The only way to get the acceptance rate to fall is to have more kids apply and at some point it’s just not worth it anymore because the yield is what is important. They went to the common app which made it easier for more kids to apply, but I doubt they need to do “stronger marketing” to get more applications since the freshman class size is relatively steady and it’s been several years since they’ve had to turn to the waitlist in any significant way. It’s an “expense” to add more admissions staff to process more applications if you don’t need to do that to meet the business objectives and yield.

The acceptance rate for OOS is lower than the overall acceptance rate. It was about 20% for OOS last year.
