UMich EA Acceptance rate

Just wondering if anyone knows the acceptance rate for this year's EA applicants.

I would imagine around 30% for OOS and 35%-40% for IS… Just a guess…

It’s definitely nowhere near last year’s acceptance rate, that’s for sure.

I’m hoping that the RD acceptance rate rises a bit; I think the admissions office wanted to be conservative this time around and make sure they didn’t overdo it like last year. That along with the switch to the common application.

Do you know U-M’s Early Response acceptance rate from last year? It is not published anywhere as far as I know. Do you know what % of the overall freshman class was accepted ER last year?

I am guessing that the overall acceptance rate this year will be much lower than that of last year as a result of UM’s switch to the Common App.

No, I don’t have the numbers for EA last year but it is pretty obvious that it’s lower this year.

Last year’s overall acceptance rate was 50.63%.

So even if the overall acceptance rate is dropped this year, we will never know the answer to the OP’s question, nor the % of the incoming class admitted via EA.

Some schools do publish it online, not sure if Michigan did & I just couldn’t find it or if they just didn’t publish it.

kind of a side note but: did UMich reject anyone EA, sorry I still am uncertain about this question.

I’ve heard they’ve been really, really hard on out-of-state students this year…but that’s only from rumor. Can anyone confirm or deny this? What kind of SAT scores are they looking for this year?

The definitely were a lot harsher even on instate kids this year. My school is a feeder to UM and we had people with 32+ GPA’s and 3.8+ GPA’s in all AP’s get deferred.

I think they forgot reading the files of the applicants until the week before the decision announcement date, and then they decided to defer everyone to avoid the work. :D

^You do realize that that is not true right? I mean where do people come up with ridiculous stuff like this? Admissions were tougher this year, end of story.

Did I sound too serious? It was meant to be a joke. :)

They were harder on everyone. For them to increase the standards for OOS students than IS students the Common App would have had to increase the number of OOS applicants more than its increase in IS applicants, which would make sense.

I still can’t believe I got deferred with a 34 act… I guess I had too much against me though. OOS, White, high income, Male, Engineering. Probably the worst combination possible

@ mk13bball

You do know that just a 34 ACT score doesn’t guarantee anything, right? None of the factors that you listed acted against you, I believe, as U of M is a public university meaning that they don’t enact affirmitive action (it was voted against a couple of years back, if I do remember correctly). Some of the factors that may have acted against you: EC’s, essays, GPA, community involvement, leadership opportunities, etc.

For OOS students the standard is way high, nearly a perfect application would help you.

^I agree. OOS will make it tougher. Male might have hurt. High income wouldn’t hurt and being White really doesn’t hurt.

It was probably all the other stuff. Also, you weren’t rejected… u were defered, u could still get in.

Being white, male, OOS, engineering and Middle to high income I can say you weren’t hurt as much as u think.

Michigan care about GPA much more than test scores.

mk13, i’m sure it was more than just your race.

mk13bball, it wasn’t OOS, White, high income, Male or Engineering that kept you from getting into Michigan. An unweighted GPA of 3.5 would make Michigan a reach for an in-state, URM, low income, female LSA applicant. The unweighted GPA is the most important factor in determining admission to Michigan. A perfect ACT score is not going to make up for four years of high school performance that isn’t up to Michigan’s standard. A 3.5 is a reach. Most of the students have 3.7 or better.
